Major Vinay Kumar Singh lodged an FIR claiming he was assaulted by 101 Area Army personnel during the Cherry Blossom Festival after accidentally touching a senior officer.
SHILLONG: An Army officer has lodged an FIR here on Dec 14 last, stating that he had been assaulted and humiliated by personnel of the 101 Area of the Army here.
The alleged incident took place during the Cherry Blossom Festival in Ri Bhoi district on Nov 15 last year. Major Vinay Kumar Singh, who is posted as assistant chief law officer, Assam Rifles, in his FIR stated that he had been assaulted because he had accidentally touched the General Officer Commanding 21 Mountain Division while dancing.
The FIR, which was lodged with the Kench's Trace Beat House, Rilbong here was forwarded to the Umiam police station as the alleged incident took place under its jurisdiction.
On Jan 2, a case was registered
The victim urged the police authorities to take appropriate legal action with regard to this incident and charge the individuals named by him in the FIR with the offenCes of "causing grievous hurt, attempting to take my life, forgery under the relevant provisions of law and using as genuine a forged document".
Major Singh further wrote to the police, "I remain in constant apprehension that these individuals may go to great lengths to cover up their actions and obstruct justice. Given the gravity of the situation, I humbly urge you to take swift and immediate action to ensure that justice is served and to prevent any further attempts to conceal the truth".
