Decks cleared for 175cr Shillong ropeway
Shillong: The foundation stone for Shillong Ropeway, which was laid by President Droupadi Murmu on Jan 16 this year, was unveiled by chief minister Conrad K Sangma at the project site, Shillong peak view point, on Wednesday.
The CM and tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh handed over the letter of acceptance to the construction firm, KEC International Ltd-Tantia Construction Ltd JV, to officially begin the work of the Rs 175 crore project.
This is Meghalaya’s first passenger ropeway project. which will be implemented in partnership with French company POMA, whose role will be to primarily supply equipment for the project.
“The state govt has been creating numerous infrastructure projects to promote tourism, the ropeway project is one such intervention,” the CM said. He also handed over the second instalment of Rs 1.5 crore to Glanding Lyngdoh, general secretary of Riat Laban Dorbar Pyllun, which is part of the token amount of Rs 3 crore for land compensation.
