SRINAGAR: Five members of a family were asphyxiated in Srinagar's Pandrethan area on Sunday, officials said

The deceased included a married couple and their three children, who were originally from Uri region of Baramulla district. Their bodies were discovered in their rented residence during the evening hours.
Local residents alerted the authorities when they noticed unusual silence from the household throughout the day.
Initial investigation by officials indicated that asphyxiation was the cause of death.
The incident occurred during Kashmir Valley's severe 40-day winter period, when residents typically remain indoors and use braziers for warmth.
Both lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha and chief minister Omar Abdullah conveyed their condolences regarding the tragic event.
