NEW DELHI: River rafting commenced in Poonch district of Jammu-Kashmir to promote tourism and adventure activities in the border district. The adventure sport began on the Pulast river on July 17.
Visitors will now have the opportunity to experience the thrill of river rafting. The activity will continue till July 22.

Additional district development commissioner (ADDC), Sandesh Kumar Sharma, inaugurated the rafting expedition from Kankote on Wednesday.

"...It's an adventurous activity and I hope that it will continue. Budha Amarnath Yatra is going to commence here where people come in large numbers, they'll enjoy it and it will do publicity as well. I think it will promote tourism," Sharma said.

Locals were excited to get involved in adventure activities, as it will also help to increase their source of income.
Maqsood Hussain Shah, a local, says, "We are delighted... Today, we received this opportunity through the administration and this team. We extend to them heartfelt gratitude. We will receive all kinds of benefits. Secondly, we used to watch this on TV. Today, we are happy that this is beginning in Poonch..."
