14-year-old boy kills one-year-old cousin while trying to silence her cries

SURAT: A 14-year-old boy killed his one-year-old cousin in an attempt to stop her from crying.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening when the mothers of both the accused and the victim were at their jobs.
The boy pushed the mouth and throat of the girl with his two hands as she would not stop crying, which led to her death. Athwalines police booked the minor for culpable homicide not amounting to murder after the victim's mother's complaint and detained him.
Deputy commissioner of police (Zone-4) Vijaysingh Gurjar said: "Based on suspicion, we got the forensic postmortem done and found that the girl died due to strangulation. After the PM report, we inquired who all were present at home at the time of the incident. We found that four daughters of the complainant and two sons of the complainant's elder sister were at home. As the victim would not stop crying, the minor accused strangled her in an attempt to stop her crying. The minor did not know it might lead to the death of the girl."
After the police came to know, they detained him and are investigating with the help of a juvenile officer, a lady officer, and a person from an NGO.
"We are trying to know if the boy committed the crime under the influence of any online game or social media. We have handed over the body to the family," said Gurjar.
The incident took place around 8.30pm on Tuesday when the complainant and her elder sister were at their jobs in a hospital. The husband of the complainant works in Ahmedabad, while the husband of the elder sister works in Maharashtra. Both sisters live in a rented house in Nanpura under the Athwalines police station area.
The victim's family is native to Bihar and lived in Surat for livelihood. Athwalines police station booked the minor under BNS 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
