THANE: Peak morning hour traffic on the Ghodbunder Road moving towards Gaimukh and the Ahmedabad Highway was affected Monday morning following a mishap involving a freight carrier, officials informed. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident.
The incident occurred around 7 am when a trailer truck carrying 40 tonnes of chemical stock from
Karnataka to Gujarat crashed into the median near the entry point of the Waghbil flyover after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The affected truck blocked access of other vehicles to the flyover while the collision led to the oil tank rupturing and spillage of the oil on the carriageway, making it dangerous for safe and smooth traffic movement.
Accordingly, officials blocked all traffic movement on the Thane to Ghodbunder direction lanes and diverted traffic on the slip roads, leading to major congestion at the spot. This led to slow-moving traffic on the highway from the stretch, affecting peak hour city traffic also, informed Yasin Tadvi, in charge at the Thane regional disaster management cell.
Rescue teams were deployed at the post to remove the spilled oil and clear the highway for traffic movement.
