Ex-Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator among four arrested for extortion in Maharashtra

In Vasai, four individuals, including ex-Shiv Sena corporator Swapnil Bandekar, were arrested for allegedly extorting a developer. The accused demanded Rs 10 crores, later reduced to Rs 1.5 crores in instalments. Himanshu Shah was caught accepting Rs 15 lakhs as the first instalment, leading to the arrests at a Mira Road hotel. They face charges under BNS section 308 (2).

Four individuals, including a former Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator, were arrested by Navghar police for allegedly extorting a developer in Vasai Virar region.
VASAI: Four people have been arrested by the Navghar cops on Saturday night, including a former Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator, for allegedly demanding extortion from a developer, who has his SRA projects and construction business in Vasai Virar region.
The four have been identified as Swapnil Bandekar (former corporator), Himanshu Shah, Nitin and Kishore. FIR mentions that the complainant, Akash Gupta, had seen multiple Right To Information (RTI) applications of his projects by these four.
The FIR also mentions that the demand was for 10 crores, which came down to 1.5 crores to be given in few instalments and Himanshu was caught red handed while accepting the first instalment of 15 lakhs.
After it was confirmed by the cops that the other three were also involved in this crime, they were also arrested by the Navghar cops. The meeting (trap) was set at a hotel in Mira road on Saturday night.
The cops have booked them under BNS sections 308 (2) extortion and would be produced in court today.
