Thane: Newborn infant found abandoned in residential complex loft

A newborn male infant was found abandoned at the loft of Khairunisa Apartment in Thane’s Wagle Estate area. The police arrived at the scene after being alerted by local residents. The baby, estimated to be a day old, was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. An investigation has been launched to identify the person responsible for abandoning the child.

THANE: A newborn male infant was discovered abandoned on Monday at the loft of a residential complex in Thane’s Wagle Estate area, according to local police officials.
According to police, the infant, estimated to be just a day old, was found within the premises and on the loft of Khairunisa Apartment, located behind Navodaya English High School in Kisan Nagar No.1.
Residents from neighbouring building alerted the local political party leader who in turn alerted the police, following which the police arrived at the scene.
The infant was rushed to the Thane Civil Hospital, but doctors declared the child brought dead. Initially, there were indications that the baby might be alive, but medical examination confirmed otherwise, the officer added.
The Shrinagar Police Station registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and launched an investigation into the case. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the apartment complex and surrounding areas to determine who may have abandoned the child, said a police officer.
Additionally, police are checking records at local hospitals and maternity homes to identify any recent births in the area.
At present, there is no clarity on who abandoned the newborn or the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, the police said.
