THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday inaugurated the new multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility at Thampanoor. The facility was completed as part of the Smart city project.

The location of the facility at Thampanoor which is close to the bus station and railway station will be helpful to all who reach the city, he said. The project was completed at a cost of Rs 19 crore.
MLCP at Thampanoor is set to be the first parking lot owned by the corporation to have IT-enabled smart parking solutions. Booking of parking slots via 'one city' app being developed by the Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited (SCTL) will be enabled here. Using the app, priority can be given to differently abled people, as well as pregnant women. Other MLCPs being developed by the corporation will also be integrated with this app.
Vehicle parking slot availability will be displayed outside the facility. It will function as a 24 X 7 parking facility with entry regulated through boom barriers. All digital payment modes would be available here and CCTV surveillance will be enabled for the safety of parked vehicles.
Car washing facility and EV charging facility shall be integrated later and solar panels will be installed post commissioning as a move towards green energy. The structure can be used to park 400 two-wheelers and 22 cars.
The project comprises five floors with ground floor for four wheeler parking while the first, second and third floors for two wheeler parking. It has come up on 50.25 cents of land which was earlier used as a pay and park facility.
