THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala police have filed a case against an online channel for spreading false information about electronic voting machines and election officials on Saturday.
The case, registered at the City Cyber crime station in Thiruvananthapuram, alleges that the online channel published a news article claiming that electronic voting machines in the capital district were malfunctioning and that there was a disagreement between election officials and politicians regarding this issue.
The case was filed after the district collector lodged a complaint, according to the police.
The online channel withdrew the news following
legal action, police said in a Facebook post.
The police have also issued a warning that strict measures will be taken against individuals who spread misleading and hate-mongering news related to the Lok Sabha elections among the public. Further, they have initiated a 24x7 cyber patrolling system throughout the state to identify and address all types of cyber crimes.
