Man arrested for assaulting TNSTC driver
Trichy: Trichy city police arrested a 36-year-old man on charges of abusing and assaulting a TNSTC bus driver and damaging the bus.
Police said that the TNSTC bus from Dindigul was proceeding to Central bus terminus in Trichy on Friday night. While it neared Ramji Nagar bus stop, a passenger identified as U Kathiravan, a resident of Pattukottai in Thanjavur district asked the driver to halt the vehicle. However, the driver, K Venkatesan, 50, refused since it was a point-to-point service. The driver insisted the man to wait for five minutes as the Central bus stand was fast approaching. But, Kathiravan assaulted the driver and forced him to halt the bus. After getting down, the accused verbally abused the driver and threatened him.
Police added that Kathiravan also pelted a stone and damaged the windshield of the bus. Based on a complaint by the driver on Saturday, E Pudur police arrested Kathiravan under sections 296 (b) (reciting in obscene language), 118 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351 (3) (intimidation) of BNS Act and 2 of Tamil Nadu Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) (TNPPDL) Act.
He was remanded in judicial custody till Feb 14.
