Trichy: Tamil Nadu Government Collegiate Teachers Association (TNGCTA) submitted a request to the additional chief secretary to the govt of Tamil Nadu, higher education department, and the commissioner of collegiate education, to expand the syndicate subcommittee by including a teacher syndicate member representing govt college.
In a statement, state president, P David Livingston, said a special meeting of the Bharathidasan University syndicate was convened. The statement said the meeting was convened to discuss two issues. One to select suitable candidates for the post of registrar and controller of examinations of Bharathidasan University and two to constitute a syndicate sub-committee to exercise the powers and perform the duties of the vice-chancellor as the tenure of the sitting VC ends on Feb 4.
"TNGCTA strongly feels that it was highly unfortunate that the meeting failed to provide suitable representation to the colleges in the syndicate sub-committee when elected syndicate members from teacher's constituency are in the committee," the statement read.
Against this backdrop, the body said it requests the expansion of the syndicate subcommittee by including a teacher syndicate member representing govt colleges.
