Trichy: A 53-year-old woman died after falling from a moving bus on Anna Nagar Link Road near the Uyyakondan canal walking track in Trichy on Sunday. Police said she was trying to swap seat when she fell through the front door.
Police said Jaffer Nisha, from Officers Colony in Puthur, has boarded a TNSTC bus bound to Mettupalayam, Coimbatore. When the bus was approaching a sharp curve on Anna Nagar Link Road abutting the roadside open gym, Nisha tried to change her seat. But the bus jolted, and Jaffer Nisha slipped and fell through the front door, said fellow passengers.
Police said Nisha suffered severe head injuries. People rushed her to Trichy GH but doctors declared her brought dead.
The fatal accident has exposed the accident vulnerability of Anna Nagar Link Road where overspeeding has become a common sight. "Doors on the TNSTC bus should been shut. On most buses, except AC fleets, doors are unutilised. If the door had been used, the woman's life could have been saved," P Aiyarappan, member district road safety council, said.
As the 700m road has no speed breakers, morning walkers said high-end two-wheelers often commit reckless riding by endangering public's lives. Traffic police said that the accident spot will be studied to suggest suitable solutions.
