Vijayawada: Tadepalli police issued a notice to KL University chairman Koneru Satyanarayana in connection with a land fraud case.
According to the notice issued by Tadepalli CI Kalyan Raju, the case dates back to 2020, when a complaint was filed by Nuthakki Ramesh, a resident of Christurajapuram, Vijayawada. The complainant alleged that individuals linked to KL University fraudulently registered his 1.10-acre land in their name.
Following the court's directives, a case was registered against Koneru Satyanarayana and his relative Nagalingeswara Rao. The investigation into the case was pending for years, and as part of the proceedings, the police attempted to serve a notice to Satyanarayana at his residence in Vijayawada on Saturday. However, since he was not available, the notice was affixed to his house wall.
The notice directed Satyanarayana to appear before the police for questioning on Sunday at 10 AM, bringing all relevant documents. The CI confirmed that the notice was issued in connection with the fraud case.
The inspector told TOI that both individuals did not appear for questioning following the notice, but an advocate of Koneru Satyanarayana reached the police station and informed them that his client was admitted to Andhra Hospital in Vijayawada due to health issues.
This summons come at a time when KL University and its leadership are already embroiled in a major bribery scandal related to the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) ratings. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently apprehended ten individuals, including NAAC team members and office bearers of the Vaddeswaram-based educational foundation, in connection with allegations of bribery to secure a favourable NAAC accreditation.
The CBI's searches across 20 locations in India, including Vijayawada, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Delhi, resulted in the recovery of ₹37 lakh in cash, laptops, an iPhone 16 Pro, gold, and other incriminating materials. The investigation is still ongoing.
