VISAKHAPATNAM: In a shocking incident, a third-year engineering student allegedly stabbed his mother to death on Thursday for not letting him play online games on laptop.
The victim, Alka Singh (47), was found dead with blood spilled all around, in the residential quarters of
Indian Coast Guard (ICG) under Malkapuram police station limits in Vizag city on Thursday night.
Alka Singh's husband Balbir Singh is an ICG commandant and was stationed in Odisha a few days ago. The police took the accused, Anmol Singh (20), into custody for interrogation.
The Malkapuram police alleged that Alka Singh was murdered by Anmol Singh between 4pm and 6pm on Thursday. However, it came to light when Alka Singh's younger son Ayushman Singh returned home from college and alerted neighbours as well as the Malkapuram police about the incident.
Speaking to TOI, Malkapuram inspector S Vidya Sagar said that Anmol Singh is a BTech third year student at a private engineering college.
He allegedly is suffering from bipolar disorder (mental illness that causes shifts in a person's mood, energy, activity levels and concentration).
"Our preliminary investigation revealed that Anmol Singh was addicted to online games. He was enraged after his mother took away his mobile phone and laptop, leading to a heated confrontation between them" said Vidya Sagar.
Unable to control his anger, Anmol Singh killed her and locked the body in a room. The police have recovered a knife from a bag in the house and shifted the body for postmortem. Investigation is underway to get some more facts in the
murder case, the police added.
