In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jigajinagi Ramesh Chandappa had won from Bijapur Lok Sabha seat with a solid margin of 25,8038 votes by defeating Dr Sunita Devanand Chavan of the Janata Dal (Secular).
Previously, the constituency was known as Bijapur constituency which was readjusted in 2008 on the implementation of the Delimitation Commission of 2002.
