HAVERI: Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and his dependents have assets worth Rs 52.1 crore, according to the election affidavit filed along with his first set of nomination papers from Shiggaon assembly constituency, which he has been representing since 2008.
Bommai has assets worth Rs 49.7 crore in his name. The affidavit reveals he purchased nearly three acres of land at Tarihala village in Hubballi taluk of Dharwad as chief minister on March 26, 2022.
Both his wife, Channamma, and daughter, Aditi, have invested over Rs 1.1 crore each. Since his son, Bharat Bommai, is not dependent on his father, his investment details have not been mentioned. However, the CM has given Rs 14.7 lakh to his son.
Before filing the nomination, he visited Shri Siddharoodha Mutt in Hubballi and offered a special puja at Shiggaon's Dyamavva Devi temple. Bommai was accompanied by son Bharat, public works minister CC Patil, Haveri-Gadag MP Shivakumar Udasi and others. The CM expressed confidence in getting elected again with the highest number of votes. "People in my constituency have supported me wholeheartedly in the past, and this time too, I'm confident of breaking all records." The CM said he submitted the first set of nomination papers on Saturday as it was an auspicious time and will file them again on April 19 in the presence of BJP national president JP Nadda and other senior party functionaries.
Bommai won from Shiggaon in 2018 by a margin of 9,260 votes.
