KOTTAYAM: The state unit of the BJP has requested the national leadership of the party to declare 'Metro man' E Sreedharan as the chief minister candidate of the NDA in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
This was declared by the state unit chief of the BJP K Surendran while addressing a public meeting in Thiruvalla in the Pathanamthitta district on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering as part of the ‘Vijaya Yatra’ led by him, Surendran highlighted the achievements of Sreedharan, including the completion of the reconstruction of Palarivattom flyover in
Kochi in five months, much ahead of the scheduled time of 18 months.
“This is the model of
development for the BJP. This model is a clear message which shows what the BJP is envisaging about the development of Kerala. That is why we requested Sreedharan and the national leadership of the BJP to make Sreedharan the chief ministerial candidate in Kerala. We wish to make him the CM because
Kerala wants this model of development which is devoid of corruption,” said Surendran.
If the NDA, "under the leadership of "Metro man", gets an opportunity to rule the state, "we are confident we will be able to implement development works under Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a ten-fold force in Kerala", said Surendran.
He also said that the old Palarivattiom bridge has a place in the history of the state.
“The faulty bridge constructed by
Oommen Chandy government and later by
Pinarayi Vijayan government was demolished after 1.5 years. This demolished bridge is the model of development of the LDF and the UDF in Kerala,” he said.
This is for the first time, the BJP has openly indicated that Sreedharan will be the NDA's chief ministerial candidate.
Earlier, Sreedharan had said his main aim was to help the party come to power in Kerala and that he will be open to chief ministership.
The 88-year old technocrat had also said the focus will be on developing infrastructure in a big way and bring the state out of the debt trap if the BJP wins the assembly polls.
