On Tuesday, the 48th International Kolkata Book Fair was inaugurated. The inauguration ceremony was done by Hon'ble Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee along with Dr. Phillip Ackermann, H.E. Ambassador of Germany in India, Dr. Marla Stuckenberg, Regional Director, Goethe Institute, South Asia, Shri Abul Bashar and Ministers of Government of West Bengal and other dignitaries. The highest number of participants of book publishers and little magazines around 1000. (Big, medium, small, and Little Magazines). The high points of the fair are:
1) Presence of Germany, USA, UK, France, Russia, Nepal, Spain, Peru, Argentina, Guatemala, Costa Rica and other Latin American countries in the foreign complex. Presence of all National and Multinational publishing houses in the book fair.
2) Major gates – Salil Chowdhury Ritwik Ghatak Gate, Goethe Gate, Max Mueller Gate, Hackeschen Höfe Gate, Brandenburg Gate, Biswa Bangla Gate and Jibananda Nazrul Gate.
3) Roads name after eminent German literary personalities like Rainer Maria Rilke, Bertolt Brecht, Franz Kafka, Herta Muller, Thomas Mann and others along with eminent personalities and litterateurs of our country.
4) Senior Citizen’s Day: 4 February at 4:30pm. Felicitation to author Joy Goswami, Publisher Ranjan Sarkar and Reader Satyabrata Ghoshal.
5) For the first time, Book Fair will have special Mascot, ducks named Haso & Hasi, is ready to greet all the visitors of the Book Fair.
