Indian cinema has lost yet another gem. The renowned Bengali director Arun Roy, whose exemplary work redefined the industry, breathed his last on January 2, Thursday, at the age of 56.
The news of his demise was confirmed by a doctor treating him at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The late director was batting with cancer for years and recently reports stated he had a severe lung infection.

He was admitted to the hospital sometime back because of his deteriorating health. He was initially admitted to the ICU, where he got support from a BiPAP system. However, it was noted that his condition worsened over the past few days, after which it was required to put him on ventilator support.
Roy’s treating doctor, Dr. Kinjal Nanda, confirmed his passing according to an India Today report. Later, the medical profession shared an emotional tribute on Facebook, writing, "Stay in peace, my Hiralal, just like the original Hiralal (sic)."
Dr. Nanda also mentioned that Arun Roy's body would be taken to his Haridevpur residence at 1 pm, and later it would be placed at Technicians’ Studio so that his fans and colleagues to pay their final respects to the iconic figure.

Prosenjit Chatterjee took to X, to pay his final respects to the late director. "From Arun Roy's 'Agaro' to 'Bagha Jatin'—each of his films in a decade has made us think anew. This morning, though he lost his long battle with cancer..his movies will remain his true triumph..condolences to Arun's family.", read his post.
It's unfair that a talent like Roy left the mortal plane. May god bless his family with the strength to navigate through the tough time.
