Kanye West rejects bipolar diagnosis; claims he is actually autistic
Kanye West has made a bold revelation stating that his 2018 bipolar disorder diagnosis was incorrect. The rapper always known for his outspoken nature and controversial statements, now believes he has autism instead—a realization he credits to his wife, Bianca Censori.
In a recent interview on The Download podcast with Justin LaBoy, West opened up about his mental health journey, claiming he had been misdiagnosed. The Flashing Lights artist had previously embraced his bipolar disorder, famously calling it his “superpower” on his 2018 'Ye' album. However, his perspective has since changed.
West explained that it was Bianca Censori who first questioned whether his diagnosis was accurate. She reportedly encouraged him to seek a second opinion, as she had previous experience with individuals living with bipolar disorder and felt that his personality did not match the condition. After further exploration, West now believes that he is actually on the autism spectrum.
West’s ex-wife, Kim Kardashian had previously acknowledged his diagnosis, asking for understanding and compassion for his erratic behavior. However, West now argues that his public outbursts and controversial remarks were misinterpreted symptoms, stemming from what he now believes to be autism rather than bipolar disorder.
During the podcast, he expressed frustration over how people have tried to control his actions, particularly in the wake of his past controversies. “This is a grown man. You can’t take control of his bank account. You can’t control what I say on Twitter,” West asserted.
West also revealed that he has stopped taking his prescribed medication since receiving his new diagnosis. He suggested that the medication limited his creative output, stating, “It’s about finding ways to stay creative without being blocked. That’s what I bring to the world.”
He went on to say that his intensity and unpredictability may be difficult for those around him, but he believes it’s a necessary part of his creative genius. “It’s worth the ramp-up, as long as y’all get the creativity,” he added.
West’s claims have sparked mixed reactions, with some fans expressing support while others question the validity of his new self-diagnosis. Regardless, the rapper remains firm in his belief that he was misunderstood for years and is now embracing a new identity that more closely aligns with his experiences.
As always, Kanye West continues to challenge perceptions both about himself and the world around him.
