Twinkle Khanna slams the blame game targeting Kareena Kapoor after the attack on Saif Ali Khan

Twinkle Khanna has strongly criticized the unwarranted blame placed on Kareena Kapoor Khan following the recent attack on her husband, Saif Ali Khan. The actor and writer took a firm stand against this recurring societal pattern, where wives are unjustly held accountable for their husbands' misfortunes, through her latest column in our publication.
On January 16, 2025, Saif Ali Khan was stabbed by an intruder at his Bandra residence. Social media was flooded with rumors accusing Kareena Kapoor of being either absent during the incident or "too intoxicated" to assist. Twinkle dismissed these allegations as baseless, calling out the tendency to vilify women without evidence.

Twinkle also drew parallels to similar instances in public life where women have been unfairly blamed for their partner's actions. Citing examples, she referenced how Anushka Sharma was often booed and criticized whenever her husband, cricketer Virat Kohli, failed on the field. She also highlighted historical cases like Yoko Ono being held responsible for the Beatles’ split and Melania Trump facing backlash for her husband’s controversial policies.
Expanding her argument beyond celebrities, Twinkle pointed out how ordinary women also endure this misplaced blame. From being held accountable for their husbands' weight gain or baldness to their character and habits, wives are frequently made scapegoats for issues unrelated to their actions. “People just enjoy shifting the blame onto the wife — an all-too-familiar pattern,” Twinkle wrote.
In her column, Twinkle revealed that the attack on Saif Ali Khan has left many feeling vulnerable, including herself. She confessed to double-checking the locks on her windows to ensure her family’s safety.
Twinkle concluded her piece with a sharp critique of societal attitudes, stating, “Behind every man, loser or leader, stands a woman who is about to be vilified, at the drop of a hat, or with it firmly on her head.”
Saif Ali Khan, who underwent surgery following the attack, has since been discharged from the hospital and has hired additional security to protect his family.
