The duo, who initially bonded during the making of 'Ye Maaya Chesave', later shared the screen together in a few films and won fans with their on-screen chemistry. In 2017, Samantha and Chaitanya married in a combined Hindu and Christian ceremony, but their divorce in 2021 left fans heartbroken. However, there was a time when Samantha complained about Chay's habit of considering his pillow as his first wife.
During an appearance on Feet Up With The Stars (Telugu) in 2019, Samantha candidly shared insights into her relationship with Chaitanya. When the host asked her what had changed in their relationship post-marriage, she responded humorously, "The pillow is the first wife to Chaitanya. Even if I have to kiss, the pillow is always between us. And now it's enough; I guess I have said a lot of things."

Following the couple's separation, social media buzzed with various theories surrounding their split. Speculations ranged from disapproval within the Akkineni family regarding Samantha's bold image to differing views on starting a family.
However, Naga Chaitanya married actress Sobhita Dhulipala in a traditional ceremony on December 4 , 2024, marking a new beginning for the actor.

Samantha was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, myositis, within a year of her divorce from Naga Chaitanya. She took a hiatus from acting, and for the past three years, she has been doing well with versatile roles in the industry. She was last seen in the action series 'Citadel: Honey Bunny' alongside Varun Dhawan. 'Rakht Brahmand' and 'Bangaram' are some of her upcoming projects.
Meanwhile, Chaitanya is gearing up for the release of 'Thandel' on February 7.
