Born as Gayatri Das on June 8, 1981, in Kochi, Kerala, Geetu Mohandas began her career as a child artist in the Malayalam film industry. She made her debut alongside legendary actor Mohanlal in the film 'Onnu Muthal Poojyam Vare' in 1996, earning the
Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist. Over the years, she appeared in various films, including 'Akale', 'Nala Damayanthi', and 'Seetha Kalyanam', before transitioning into directing.
In 2009, Geetu established her production house, Unplugged, and directed her first short film, 'Kelkkunnundo'. This project won multiple awards and set the stage for her future endeavours. Her feature film debut came with 'Liar's Dice' in 2013, which received critical acclaim and was India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars. The film won two National Film Awards and several international accolades.
Her second feature film, 'Moothon', released in 2019, also received widespread recognition and won the Global Filmmaking Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
'Toxic' is expected to be a high-budget film featuring a stellar cast that includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, and
Huma Qureshi. While specific plot details are still under wraps the is expected to be a drug mafia action thriller based in the 1950s-1970s in Goa.
Originally slated for a grand release on April 10, 2025, 'Toxic' has now been postponed to a later date.
