Upendra's recent film 'UI' which was released on December 20, 2024, has been praised for its unique concept and engaging storytelling. The film, that marks Upendra's return as a director after nearly nine years, is a dystopian science fiction with a psychological thriller.
Despite facing competition from other films, 'UI' performed reasonably well at the box office, earning around Rs 30 crores within two weeks of its release. However, the film has also been impacted by negative word-of-mouth, leading to concerns about potential losses.
Recently, rumours circulated regarding the film's OTT streaming rights, with some reports suggesting that Sun NXT had acquired them. In response to these claims, producer Sreekanth KP took to social media to clarify that these rumours are false. He shared an official announcement regarding OTT rights that would come from their verified channels and urged fans not to believe or spread misinformation.
The film features a strong cast alongside Upendra, including Guruprasad, Om Sai Prakash, Sadhu Kokila, Reeshma Nanaiah,
Jisshu Sengupta, Murali Sharma,
Indrajit Lankesh, and Nidhi Subbaiah. With a runtime of 132 minutes and a U/A certification from the censor board, 'UI' has been well-received for its ambitious storytelling and production values.
The film continues its theatrical run and fans are eager for updates about its future availability on streaming platforms. There are hints that other platforms may be interested in acquiring the film's rights.
