Nithya Menen faces criticism after incident at ‘Kadhalikka Neramillai’ audio launch

Actress Nithya Menen has stirred a social media controversy following an incident at the audio launch of her upcoming film ‘Kadhalikka Neramillai’, starring Jayam Ravi. The event, which took place ahead of the film's release on January 14, was meant to be a celebratory occasion but quickly became the focal point of criticism.

The controversy began when Nithya, while stepping onto the stage, refused a handshake from an assistant who had extended his hand in greeting. Reports suggest that Nithya remarked from the stage that she wasn't feeling well, hinting that her condition could potentially expose others to illness, including COVID-19. This initial exchange raised eyebrows but what followed further fueled the online backlash.

A video circulating on social media showed Nithya embracing actor Vinay Rai moments after she had declined the assistant's handshake. This contradictory behavior quickly caught the attention of viewers, sparking accusations of inconsistency and insensitivity. Many netizens criticized Nithya for what they saw as a disrespectful and discriminatory attitude towards the assistant, arguing that such actions created an impression of favoritism and unequal treatment among those in the industry.
The situation intensified when another video surfaced, showcasing Nithya’s playful interaction with director Mysskin. After jokingly telling him not to attempt a hug, she kissed him on the cheek, and he responded by kissing her hand. Additionally, Nithya was seen sharing a warm hug with her co-star Jayam Ravi.
Nithya Menen also made headlines for her opinion on work culture in the film industry. Talking to Cinema Vikatan, the talented actress said, “There is a slight level of inhumanity in films. No matter how sick you are or how hard it may be, you are expected to show up and perform. That’s all. We get used to it. Whatever happens, we have to struggle. For the first time, I told a male director that I had my period. He asked if it was my first day. That’s when I felt so understood and cared for. He said, ‘You can rest. Don’t do anything. Finish this and go up.’”
Meanwhile, recently Nithya Menen shared the song ‘Baby Chiki Chiki’ from the upcoming film ‘Kadhalikka Neramillai’.
