Title woes continue for Sivakarathikeyan's film; producers of the original Parasakthi claim they still hold the title rights
Only on Thursday, the makers of Sudha Kongara’s multi-starrer Parasakthi, featuring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela, had managed to resolve a title dispute with the team behind Vijay Antony’s Sakthi Thirumagan. But now, a fresh controversy has cropped up over the title. Late on Thursday night, National Pictures, the production house behind Sivaji Ganesan’s 1952 landmark film of the same name, released a statement stressing that the title rights belong to them and requested that other filmmakers refrain from using the title for their films.
They also clarified that AVM productions, from which makers of the new film have obtained the permission to use the title, only held the film’s distribution rights in select regions.
“We have begun work on releasing a digitally restored version of Parasakthi, which is about to celebrate its 75th anniversary. At this juncture, we request that no one else use Parasakthi, for which we have the full rights, as their film’s title,” a statement by R Karthikeyan, the grandson of Perumal Mudaliar, who established the production house, read.
Speaking to us, Karthikeyan shared, “The film’s makers haven’t reached out to us yet (until Friday afternoon). We haven’t said that we would not give them the title. We just wanted to establish that National Pictures are the pro ducers of Parasakthi as per the censor certificate. The makers might have thought that the area distributors (AVM Productions) were the producers, perhaps because we have been away from the film industry for years.”
