The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has transformed the way Indians transact. Over the last few years, UPI has emerged as one of the most-popular way of making financial transactions. UPI offers a seamless banking system that facilitates quick and secure transactions within apps. By linking your bank account to apps like Google Pay, UPI allows users to effortlessly send and receive money.Your UPI ID serves as your digital address on the system and often indicates your bank's name.
Occasionally, users may encounter connectivity issues or the need to create a new UPI ID. Google Pay has a simple solution for these situations. To ensure smooth transactions at your convenience, here’s a step-by-step process of changing or resetting your UPI ID on Google Pay:

How to change UPI ID on Google Pay

Step 1: Open Google Pay app on your phone.
Step 2: Navigate to your profile.
Step 3: Select your bank's name.
Step 4: Choose your bank's name once again.
Step 5: Tap on the pencil icon to edit.
Step 6: Here you will get access to options for changing your UPI ID.
Step 7: Proceed to modify your UPI ID as needed.
Step 8: You can also delete the older ID if you want.

Things to remember

Google Pay will allow you to create up to 4 UPI IDs for each bank account you add. You can’t use UPI IDs created through other UPI apps or net banking portals on Google Pay. Once you sign in to Google Pay, a new VPA or UPI ID will be automatically generated for you.


The VPA or UPI ID generated through Google Pay will serve as the default ID on your account. You can either retain the desired ID and remove any other associated IDs. Also, to add a bank account to Google Pay, it has to support the UPI functionality.
UPI integrates several bank accounts into one mobile app and offers various banking features including seamless fund transfers and merchant payments.
You can update your UPI ID by obtaining two additional IDs from your bank. To update a bank account on Google Pay, you have to remove and re-adding it. However, incoming funds will be deposited into your primary account.
