NEW DELHI: The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) on Tuesday approved Dholpur-Karauli in
Rajasthan as a new tiger reserve, bringing the count of tiger reserve in the country to 54. Dholpur-Karauli is the fifth tiger reserve of Rajasthan after Ranthambore, Sariska, Mukundra Hills and Ramgarh Vishdhari. The government has, meanwhile, also given in-principle approval to declare Kumbhalgarh as a tiger reserve.
"Giant leap for wildlife conservation in Rajasthan," environment minister Bhupender Yadav wrote on the microblogging site X.
On "in-principle" approval for Kumbhalgarh, he wrote, "This step towards wildlife conservation promises a brighter future for tigers and biodiversity in Rajasthan. The move will boost employment opportunities for the people of the region through eco-tourism."
