Former Nagaland Congress leaders Bobby Panicker and T Yangseo Sangtam join BJP

Bobby Panicker and T Yangseo Sangtam, both former Congress members, joined BJP in New Delhi in the presence of senior BJP leaders. Sangtam is noted for his role as the former Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland legislative assembly while Panicker faced expulsion from Congress earlier this year. NEW DELHI: Bobby Panicker, former Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) working president and treasurer, along with former deputy speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly T Yangseo Sangtam, joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of BJP general secretary BL Santhosh, national secretary Anil K Antony, and BJP Nagaland chief Benjamin Yepthomi in New Delhi.

Benjamin Yepthomi on Wednesday shared on the social media platform X that he was delighted to meet BL Santhosh in New Delhi on Tuesday mentioning that Yangseo Sangtam and Bobby Panicker had recently joined the BJP. He further noted that Sangtam and Panicker along with Anil K Antony, advisor for tribal affairs and election Tovihoto also met BL Santhosh.
"Delighted to call upon National General Secy (Org) Shri @blsanthosh Ji in New Delhi on 1st October 2024. Held detailed discussions and deliberations on the Party's organisational activities in Nagaland over the last year and further briefed him on the State's performance in the first phase of the Sadasyata Abhiyan Membership Drive 2024. National Secretary & Nagaland Prabhari Shri @anilkantony Ji, Hon'ble Advisor for Tribal Affairs & Election Shri @tovihoto Ji, and I also met Shri BL Santhosh Ji, along with former Deputy Speaker NLA Shri @yangseo_sangtam Ji and former Vice Chairman of North East Congress Coordination Committee Dr Bobby Panicker Ji, who have recently joined @BJP4India," Yepthomi posted on X.

The BJP Nagaland chief also mentioned that they held detailed discussions with BL Santhosh about the party's organisational activities in Nagaland over the past year and briefed him on the state's performance in the first phase of the Sadasyata Abhiyan Membership Drive 2024.
Yepthomi expressed gratitude to BJP general secretary for his continued support of the party in Nagaland and said that his visionary leadership inspired them to work harder and achieve greater success.

"Thank you, Shri BL Santhosh Ji, for always responding positively to the Party in Nagaland. Your visionary leadership inspires us to work harder and achieve greater heights!" Yepthomi added.
Earlier this year, the NPCC expelled Bobby Panicker from Congress membership for six years. NPCC president S Supongmeren Jamir said that this decision was made at an emergency meeting on January 27, 2024, based on a recommendation from the DAC Report.
T Yangseo Sangtam served as the deputy speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 2022 to 2023 and represented the Pungro Kiphire Assembly constituency.
