THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Left-governed
Kerala has offered to “adopt and educate” the Class II Muslim student slapped by classmates on his teacher’s orders in a government school in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
“If his parents are willing, then the education department is ready to adopt the boy. The state government and the people of Kerala will strive to protect secular values,” Kerala education minister V Sivankutty said Monday.
Sivankutty had earlier written to
UP CM Yogi Adityanath seeking stern action against “those responsible for promoting such divisive actions within an educational institution” in the state.
“We have seen how a teacher is directing other students to slap the boy who belongs to a minority community. The government there (UP) has taken a case against the incidents by slapping minor charges. Even the teacher (Tripta Tyagi) is not ready to repent her mistake. The boy’s fate is hanging in the balance and his education should not be affected due to the incident,” he said.
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the slapping. “Hindutva communalism is turning India into a hotbed of hatred,” he said.
