North India shivers as IMD warns of severe cold wave till January 15

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that the lowest minimum temperature of 3 degree Celsius was reported at Narnaul (Haryana), Ayanagar (Delhi) and Kanpur (East Uttar Pradesh). The IMD said that cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi till January 15 and cold wave conditions in isolated pockets on January 16. The IMD also warned that cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are likely over plains of Northwest India during next three days and improve thereafter.

NEW DELHI: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that several parts of North India continue to experience extremely low temperatures. Narnaul (Haryana), Ayanagar (Delhi), and Kanpur (East Uttar Pradesh) recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius, making it the lowest recorded temperature in these areas.
According to the IMD, cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are expected to persist in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi until January 15.

Additionally, cold wave conditions are also likely to occur in isolated pockets on January 16. The IMD's daily bulletin further predicts that dense to very dense fog conditions will prevail over North India for the next 4-5 days. Furthermore, the plains of Northwest India will experience cold day to severe cold day conditions for the next 4 days, followed by a reduction thereafter.
The IMD has issued a warning stating that cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are expected to persist over the plains of Northwest India for the next three days, gradually improving thereafter. The minimum temperatures in most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, and some parts of Rajasthan are ranging from 3-7 degrees Celsius. In isolated pockets of Bihar, the minimum temperatures are in the range of 3-7 degrees Celsius. Many parts of South Rajasthan are experiencing temperatures between 8-10 degrees Celsius.
The IMD stated, "These temperatures are 1-2 degrees Celsius below normal in many parts of North and adjoining Central India, except for Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, where they are normal to above normal."
The IMD further predicts that dense to very dense fog conditions will persist for a few hours at night and in the morning in several parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi until January 16, with isolated pockets experiencing dense fog on January 17. Similar conditions are expected in some parts of Uttar Pradesh until January 15, with dense fog in isolated pockets on January 16 and 17. In addition, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will experience dense to very dense fog conditions in the morning on Saturday and Sunday, followed by dense fog in isolated pockets on January 15.

The IMD has issued an alert, stating that cold day to severe cold day conditions will persist in some parts of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday and Sunday, with isolated pockets experiencing cold day conditions in West Uttar Pradesh on January 15. Bihar will also experience cold day conditions in isolated pockets on Saturday and Sunday.
The IMD bulletin also predicts that ground frost conditions are likely to occur in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and East Rajasthan on Saturday and Sunday, followed by West Rajasthan on Sunday.
