A 22-year-old Assam constable was killed after being hit by a drugs-laden truck at a checkpost in Sribhumi district (formerly Karimganj) early Saturday. Jorhat native Ujjal Bora had signalled the truck, coming from neighbouring Tripura, to stop at the checkpoint in Churaibari area but the driver disregarded it and tried to breach barricades, hitting the constable. Bora, severely injured, died on the way to a Silchar hospital. The errant driver fled and later collided with a police vehicle pursuing it. The driver and his helper were arrested. Cops seized the truck and found 20,000 Yaba tablets concealed in cartons.
