Tanishaa Mukerji, the Bollywood actress and sister of renowned star
Kajol, has opened up on her inspiring weight loss journey. Recently, she shared her experiences where she delved into the complexities of weight management for women. During her conversation with The Male Feminist, she revealed that she lost a considerable amount of weight in a short time.
Fat is very important for woman’s bodyHowever, she cautioned that maintaining a low body fat percentage is challenging for women. She stated, “I lost a lot of weight drastically in a very short period of time. Now, you can’t maintain abs for women for a long time. Fat is very important in a woman’s body. Fat creates estrogen production. A man can go down to about 14% body fat, but for women, that’s very low”.
Hormonal changes and their impactIn her discussion, Tanishaa highlighted the complexity of women's hormonal systems compared to men’s. She explained, “In men’s bodies, there is only one hormone, testosterone, but women have 36,000 hormones. We are baby producers”. After her intense weight loss for the film ‘Neal N Nikki’, Tanishaa experienced significant hormonal fluctuations that led to unexpected weight gain despite her consistent exercise routine. She expressed frustration over this, saying, “My hormones went up and down after shooting for ‘Neal N Nikki’, and I started just putting on weight. It didn’t matter how much I worked out; my weight kept increasing.”
The dangers of extreme dietingTanishaa also commented on the diet restrictions that she undertook with regard to the no-carb diet and the no-sugar diet. She accepts that such diets are not going to last long and said, “At that time, I didn’t understand that you cannot be on a low-carb diet indefinitely because your brain needs carbs. Your body needs carbs”. She confessed overdoing it with protein shakes which she now understands were not sustainable. "Your liver gets tired," she pointed out, highlighting how important it is to learn about cleansing and detoxing.
A shift towards holistic wellnessRealising the limitations of traditional workouts for weight loss, Tanishaa began to embrace yoga as part of her fitness regime. She stated, “Workouts are to mould your body into a particular shape, but that is not going to make you lose weight”. This shift towards yoga represents her commitment to a more holistic approach to wellness.
Tanishaa Mukerji's weight loss journey offers valuable lessons for women looking to improve their health and well-being. Here are five key tips inspired by her experiences:
- Understand hormonal changes: Be aware that hormonal fluctuations can greatly affect weight. Women have complex hormonal systems that need attention and care.
- Avoid extreme diets: Stay away from restrictive diets like no-carb or no-sugar plans. These can be hard to stick to and may lead to negative health effects over time.
- Consume healthy fats: Include healthy fats in your diet, as they are essential for hormone production and overall health. Fat plays a vital role in a woman's body, including the production of estrogen.
- Involve in holistic practices: Try adding practices like yoga into your routine. This can provide a balanced approach to fitness that focuses on both physical and mental well-being.
- Be patient and listen to your body: Remember that weight loss is not always a straight path, so be patient with yourself. Pay attention to how your body reacts to different foods and exercises, and adjust your approach as needed.
