Soften rough towels and make them fluffy again by adding this kitchen ingredient to the washing machine

Bath towels often become rough due to detergent and mineral buildup. Adding lemon juice to the washing machine can keep towels soft and fluffy. The citric acid in lemon juice breaks down residues and leaves a refreshing scent. Use 1/4 to 1/2 cup per wash cycle and avoid over-drying in sunlight.

Bath towels, though not washed often, become rough after a few cycles in the washing machine. Towels often harden up with repeated washes due to a build-up of detergent residue, minerals from hard water, and fabric softener, which can cover up the fibers and make them stiff and less absorbent. This could happen due to not rinsing properly after washing. As towels are mostly made with super absorbent material, along with water it absorbs the other chemicals as well when put in the washing machine for a toss.
If you want to keep your towels soft and fluffy all the time, and not just the first few weeks, you can just add one ingredient to the washing machine.

The secret ingredient

Lemon juice can be added along with the detergent or liquid soap in the machine when you are washing your towels. It will not only brighten the fabric, but also leave them softer and without any unpleasant smell. The citric acid in the lemon breaks the residue left by the chemical detergents and it also gives a refreshing scent to your clothes. The lemon juice is acidic and it helps break down all the toxic substances in the detergent or softener and it helps the fibre relax and be less rigid.
Apart from towels, you can also use lime juice to wash your bedding. It might leave the smell as well on your sheets, letting you sleep peacefully and calmly.

You can add up to 1/4 to 1/2 cup of lemon juice to your laundry machine for washing towels. Take the required amount of lime juice and mix it with the detergent or the liquid wash in the slot provided in the machine. Place your towels, maybe 3 or 4, but do not overload the machine, and keep it on normal wash. Do not add any other softener or fragrance liquid to it. Make sure not to overexpose your towels to sunlight as that can also make your towel dry.
