NEW DELHI: Chess Grandmaster Tania Sachdev was felicitated by Delhi Chief Minister
Atishi on Saturday for her remarkable achievement as a key member of the Indian team that clinched gold at the 45th Chess Olympiad 2024.
The event aimed to highlight Sachdev's accomplishments and her role in inspiring young talent in the city.
Atishi took to her social media platform to express her admiration for Sachdev's success and the impact it can have on aspiring athletes, particularly young girls.
She emphasized the importance of role models in motivating the next generation to pursue their dreams and strive for excellence.
"Today, the Delhi Government felicitated @TaniaSachdev, a proud Delhiite and a key member of the Indian team that clinched Gold at the 45th Chess Olympiad 2024. She also played chess with some of our young and upcoming chess champions from Delhi Govt schools!" the CM wrote on X.
"When we embark on a journey in any field, we look for role models. For Delhi's young champions, Tania is that inspiration. Today's felicitation isn't just about honouring her--it's about motivating students, especially young girls, to follow in her footsteps and aim for gold."
During the felicitation ceremony, Sachdev engaged in a chess match with some of the promising young chess players from Delhi government schools, fostering an environment of learning and inspiration.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi has demonstrated a strong commitment to nurturing sports talent in the capital.
In the 2024-25 academic year alone, over 2,000 students participated in chess tournaments, while 65 students received specialized chess training at the Chhatrasal Stadium.
Furthermore, the government has invested Rs. 98 crores since 2018 through initiatives like the Cash Incentive Scheme and Mission Excellence, aimed at empowering athletes across various sports disciplines.
Atishi expressed her hope for Sachdev's continued support in inspiring Delhi's young talent and shaping the next generation of chess champions, adding, "We look forward to Tania's continued support in inspiring Delhi's young talent and shaping the next generation of chess champions!"
