Lydia Ko emerged victorious at the Women's British Open, securing her third major title and first in eight years. The 27-year-old New Zealander navigated through a field of elite players to claim a two-stroke victory at St. Andrews on Sunday, adding to her impressive summer that also included a gold medal at the Olympic Games.
Ko's winning putt came on the iconic 18th hole of the Old Course, where she sank a left-to-right birdie to card a 3-under 69.

She then anxiously waited for the remaining contenders, including top-ranked Nelly Korda, defending champion Lilia Vu, and two-time champion Jiyai Shin, to complete their rounds.
The final round was a captivating display of skill, with the four past and present world No. 1s sharing the lead at various points. The challenging weather conditions, featuring cold, blustery winds and rain, eventually gave way to sunshine as the tournament reached its climax.
As Ko waited near the 18th green, performing stretches while donning ear muffs, Vu faced a crucial 20-foot birdie putt that would have forced a playoff. However, the putt fell short, and Vu ultimately made bogey to finish at 5 under, tied with Korda, Shin, and Ruoning Yin.
Ko's triumphant summer began with her qualification for the Hall of Fame by winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. Now, she has added the most prestigious prize in golf to her collection—a major championship title at the revered home of golf.
Her previous major victories came at the Chevron Championship in 2016 and the Evian Championship in 2015 when she was just 18 years old.
