Shubhankar Sharma and Om Prakash Chouhan tied for 30th place after shooting identical rounds of 1-under 71 in the opening round of the Betfred British Masters. Both players recorded three birdies and two bogeys. Paul Waring of England and Jeong Weon Ko of France share the lead, each posting a round of 67.
Waring had an eventful round, mixing a birdie with a bogey on the front nine before catching fire on the back nine with four consecutive birdies.
This strong finish helped him match Ko's score, who also had a level par front nine followed by an aggressive back nine.
Thriston Lawrence of South Africa and Jorge Campillo of Spain are tied for third place, one stroke behind the leaders, each with a score of four under par. They are one stroke ahead of a group of 12 players tied for fifth place, which includes English golfers Laurie Canter, Tyrrell Hatton, Jordan Smith, and Andrew Wilson.
Todd Clements, another English golfer, celebrated his 28th birthday with a memorable achievement, recording the first hole-in-one of the week at the par-three seventh hole.
