NEW DELHI: Charlie Woods, the teenage son of golfing legend
Tiger Woods, struggled in his latest tournament appearance.
The 15-year-old carded a disappointing 10-over par 80 in the second round of the US Junior Amateur championship on Tuesday, following an 82 in the opening round.
Over the course of 36 holes at Oakland Hills Country Club near Detroit, Charlie made just one birdie while recording multiple bogeys, double bogeys, and a triple bogey.
His two-day total of 22-over par 162 left him well off the pace, as he finished near the bottom of the 264-player field. The cut line for match-play competition was 18 strokes better than Charlie's score.
Although Tiger Woods was present to support his son, tournament regulations prevented him from acting as Charlie's caddie.
The eventual winner of the championship, to be decided in a 36-hole final on Saturday, will earn a spot in the 2025 US Open at Oakmont.
Tiger Woods himself is a three-time winner of the US Junior Amateur, having claimed the title in 1991, 1992, and 1993.
The only other multiple winner of the event is Jordan Spieth, who emerged victorious in 2009 and 2011.
In recent years, Tiger and Charlie have competed together in the PNC Championship, a parent-child tournament, where they finished as runners-up in 2021.
