NEW DELHI:
Vinesh Phogat, a bronze medallist at the World Championships in wrestling, faced uncertainty regarding her participation in the Grand Prix of Spain 2024 in Madrid. Despite having her flight booked for Wednesday night, Phogat had not received her Schengen visa until Wednesday morning.
In an effort to resolve the issue, Phogat reached out to Sports Minister
Mansukh Mandaviya and the Ministry of External Affairs, seeking "urgent help" as she lacked information about the status of her visa application.
Thanks to the intervention and assistance from the government, Phogat's visa was eventually granted, allowing her to travel to Spain and compete in the event.
"Dear authorities, Im requesting for urgent help. I applied for my Schengen visa in Bangalore on 24th june. I have to leave tonight for a competition in Spain on 6th July but have no information on visa.
"Requesting @mansukhmandviya @BangaloreFrance @MEABharat to help," she wrote on X.
Approximately three hours after her post, Phogat shared an update revealing that her Schengen visa had been successfully obtained.
"I have just now received my Schengen visa. I would like to sincerely thank all the authorities who have helped me get the visa so quickly. Means a lot. Thank you @mansukhmandviya @BangaloreFrance @MEABharat @DGSAI, TOPS and MOC team," she wrote on X again.
