A 38-year-old man named M Manikandan from Ukrampadi near Thekkil in Kasaragod district succumbed to amoebic meningoencephalitis at a private hospital in Kannur. Having worked in Mumbai for the past decade, he returned home with a fever and sought treatment locally before being diagnosed. Authorities suspect the infection originated from his workplace.

The accused confessed to having hunted the deer in Edumalai reserved forest area coming under Trichy district. They were handed over to forest department officials for legal action. Perambalur police registered a case against them for possessing unlicensed rifles.

The Madras high court has quashed a rape case against former AIADMK minister M Manikandan. The case was registered based on a complaint from an actor. Justice N Sathish Kumar passed the order as the actor informed the court that she has withdrawn the complaint against Manikandan.
