The article tells of eleven children who were found begging on the streets of a city. They were rescued and admitted to a children's home until they can complete their school education. The children were taken off the streets by teams of the city police's anti-human trafficking unit, the district child protection unit, and volunteers from two NGOs, the child line and Friends for Women and Children. The parents were not initially registered against, but were persuaded to send their children to the home for the children's better future. The city police commissioner said that the children were rescued from areas near the athwa railway station and the katargam area, where most of the children live and beg. However, no detailed survey of the children living on the road was done before initiating the rehabilitation drive. The city police will encourage the children to stay for a long period by introducing them to those who have lived in children's homes in the past and now settled in their life. The district social defence officer said that initially it looked like the parents would protest, but after proper counselling they agreed to send their wards to the children's home.
