In the digital entertainment arena,
Dibyendu Bhattacharya has carved out a distinct identity, particularly through his performances in shows like 'Sacred Games', 'Undekhi', 'The Gone Game', and more recently, 'Griha Laxmi'. With experience in both theatre and digital storytelling, he expresses confidence that OTT platforms will play a vital role in shaping the
future of
Indian cinema.
Bhattacharya emphasises the increasing importance of streaming platforms, stating in an interview with Hindustan Times that OTT platforms represent not just the present but also the future of the entertainment industry. Currently, they have established themselves as a dominant force, and their influence is expected to expand further. During the pandemic, when audiences were confined to their homes, OTT services provided a vital source of entertainment, allowing viewers to enjoy content on their own terms.
He highlights a significant shift in audience behavior regarding entertainment preferences, noting that people now venture out less for entertainment. He points out that cinema halls are seeing limited releases, often only featuring one or two films at a time, and audiences tend to attend only if there is a major star cast involved.
Despite the rapid growth of OTT platforms, Dibyendu remains hopeful that high-quality content will continue to thrive in this medium and that formulaic films will not take over. He remarked that OTT began as a content-driven industry, and even today, there is still a wealth of good content available. He expressed concern about the potential for corruption in the industry, stating that he hope it stays like this because it doesn't take much time to become corrupt.
