Saisha Shinde has often talked about her struggle to get acceptance as a trans woman. In the latest episode of Lock Upp, she got caught up in an offensive situation when Karanvir Bohra addressed her as ‘he’ due to a slip of tongue.
Saisha was extremely annoyed because she couldn’t use the smoking-room and slammed the makers for making the inmates suffer like this.
“You can't do this to us,” she said in front of the camera. Karanvir, who witnessed the situation tried to calm her down and then discussed with the out ‘kaidis’ how she has finally put down the issue in front of the makers. However, by mistake, he referred to Saisha ‘he’ which annoyed her. “First and foremost, it's not he, it's she,” she clarified.
Nisha Rawal noticed Saisha’s disgust with the same and alleged that everyone should mind their words while addressing Saisha. As she went on to explain, Munawar Faruqui told her to cut it short. He added that the issue shouldn’t be exaggerated because it triggers Saisha. However, Nisha went on to explain her side to everyone and said that Saisha gets extremely hurt by this and finds it difficult to confront everyone about it. “She is being choked,” she said while explaining. This turned into an argument.
After a while, Saisha stood up and said, “I’m glad this happened. Because now they can see that a trans woman can go through so much pain just for something as simple as ‘he/she’. She gave examples and tried to explain how these things trigger her.
However, the issue didn’t get resolved here. Nisha continued to explain how important it is for the 12 inmates of Lock Upp to accept Saisha, to make the world accept trans women. Meanwhile, others proclaimed that everyone has accepted it's just in the habit they need a change in. After hearing ‘acceptance’ quite a few times, Saisha stated, “I don’t need anybody’s acceptance.” This vexed Nisha, who was speaking in support of Saisha and said that she won’t say anything in the matter further.

Saisha sat down in one corner and shared with Karanvir, “You know my mom calls me Swapnil sometimes, a lot of time. Now if I can understand my mother’s agony, I can completely understand. So, wo slip of tongue ki wajah se hota hai, wo sab mujhe pata hai.”
For the unversed, Saisha Shinde, a trans woman, was formerly known as Swapnil Shinde. She is a fashion designer, who came out as a tans woman after her sex reassignment surgery in 2021.
