Nine years ago, with the world's eyes on her, Charlie Colbert fled. The press and the police called Charlie a "witness" to the nightmarish events at her elite graduate school on Christmas Eve―events known to the public as "Scarlet Christmas"―though Charlie knows she was much more than that.

Now, Charlie has meticulously rebuilt her life: She's the editor-in-chief of a major magazine, engaged to the golden child of the publishing industry, and hell-bent on never, ever letting her guard down again. But when a buzzy film made by one of Charlie's former classmates threatens to shatter everything she's worked for, Charlie realizes how much she's changed in nine years. Now, she's not going to let anything―not even the people she once loved most―get in her way.

Witty, tightly plotted, knife-sharp, and utterly immersive, Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead had me flaking on plans to squeeze in one more chapter. Fans of Jessica Knoll and Megan Miranda, meet your new favorite author."
Andrea Bartz, New York Times bestselling author of The Spare Room

"Jenny Hollander’s
Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead is exactly the kind of thriller I love. It’s a deliciously conflicting feeling to wonder when the shiny perfection of a new life built over a terrible secret will begin to tarnish, and in her first novel, Hollander doles out the suspense as masterfully as any veteran author. Honestly, this book had me at 'Scarlet Christmas'. A dark and dazzling debut."
― Jennifer Hillier, award-winning and bestselling author of Things We Do in the Dark

“Jenny Hollander has written an intoxicatingly sharp thriller.
Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead deftly explores trauma and the dark things we believe ourselves capable of. I never wanted to stop reading it, and I can't wait for Hollander's next novel.”
- Clémence Michallon, internationally bestselling author of The Quiet Tenant

"
Relentlessly twisty and bitingly sharp, Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead is guaranteed to keep you up past your bedtime. With an undercurrent of smart, dark humor, a chilling mystery at its core, and long-buried secrets resurfacing, this electrifying debut will grip readers and not let go. Voicey, unpredictable, and wholly addictive."
– Laurie Elizabeth Flynn, author of
The Girls Are All So Nice Here

"Fans of Jessica Knoll’s
Luckiest Girl Alive will love this tautly-constructed thriller in which a woman’s fate rests on answering the one question that has always eluded her: what is she capable of in her darkest moments? For accomplished journalist Charlie Colbert, no truth is more dangerous than the one that hides in her own mind, no relationship more troubled than the one she has with herself. Hollander paints an engrossing tale of a woman coming to terms not only with the ghosts of her past but her own true nature. A nail-biting ride that will keep readers turning pages long into the night."
– Ashley Winstead, author of
The Last Housewife

"
Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead is a propulsive read, rife with tension from page one. The timely storyline seamlessly shifts between past and present, each timeline pushing the other forward, making this a book I struggled to put down. If you liked The Luckiest Girl Alive, you'll love Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead."
– Katherine St. John, author of
The Siren

"Jenny Hollander’s debut novel plays with memory to deftly unpack the dangerous ways our minds trick when obsession and a lack of control collide.
At once twisty and propulsive, Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead keeps readers guessing as the protagonist parties, falls in love, and establishes her journalism career in New York City until a mass tragedy upends it all―and, years later, the truth threatens to both ruin her life and set her free. If you loved Jessica Knoll’s Luckiest Girl Alive and Andrea Bartz’s The Lost Night, this book is for you!"
– Colleen McKeegan, author of
The Wild One

"
Totally gripping. Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead grabbed me from the start, and didn’t let go until I had finished the last page. Each character is unique and so clear that, by the end of the book, I felt as if I knew them all, and that I had been there with them throughout the story"
- Rachel Abbott, author of Don’t Look Away

"
Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead has a creeping sense of dread, a slow, almost torturous, drip-feeding of information, and a highly likeable, yet unsettlingly unreliable narrator. It all builds to one of the most chilling and interesting reads of the year. Highly recommended."
- M. W. Craven, author of Sunday Times bestseller Fearless

Nice quick read - suspenseful but not gory, which is what I love!
Loved this book! I read it in 2 days, even with caring for my new baby - I just couldn’t put it down. It was suspenseful but not gory and bloody- which I am not a fan of so I was very happy with it. Would definitely recommend for someone looking for an interesting suspense book that isnt full of gore!

"Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead" by Jenny Hollander is a gripping exploration of grief and the search for meaning after loss. The novel follows a young woman as she navigates the tumultuous emotions that arise after the death of a loved one. Hollander's writing is both candid and evocative, immersing readers in the protagonist's internal struggles and the complexities of her relationships.

The character development is a highlight, as we see the protagonist grapple with her feelings of anger, confusion, and longing. Hollander does an excellent job of portraying the various ways people cope with grief, offering a nuanced look at how it can both fracture and forge connections.

The pacing is compelling, with a mix of introspective moments and dramatic events that keep readers engaged. Hollander balances heavy themes with moments of levity, making the reading experience both poignant and accessible.

Overall, "Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead" is a heartfelt and thought-provoking novel that will resonate with anyone who has faced loss. It’s a beautifully crafted story that examines the intricacies of forgiveness and the journey toward healing, making it a must-read for fans of contemporary fiction.

The sorry was trailing and slow moving. Not impressed with the ending at all. Felt like a waste of time.

best debut novels I’ve ever read. Almost “Where the Crawdads Sing” good. Just an amazingly well plotted story, complex in the way only human relationships can be. Absolutely nothing is as it seems and nothing turns out to be what you expected. Which is everything you want in a book this good. Loved every frustrating moment of it. I did get the one thing I wanted most out of it too. Charlie on her own. I did not like the Goodman Wests for many and thorough reasons, nor any of their kind. Just a great, great read and I’ll be eagerly waiting for what Jenny does next.

A digital copy of this book was provided to me by NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Minotaur Books. The opinions are my own and freely given.

Charlie was involved in what the media call, "Scarlet Christmas" where her classmates lost their lives. Years later, Charlie has rebuilt her life and never talks about that night. She stays away from everything related to that time in her life, especially her friends. Because Charlie lied and she doesn't want the truth to come out. Now, a movie is being made in honor of the 10-year anniversary, and Charlie does everything she can to put an end to it.
Charlie goes down "memory lane" with the help of her therapist to actually remember what happened that night and retrieve the parts she blocked out. But is the truth too much for Charlie to handle? There are lies by omission, and around corners that Charlie didn't have a clue about. This is a great debut, and it kept me guessing.

The book seemed more like the author had a political agenda than wanting to tell a good story. I finished it but never felt the need to. I won’t bother reading anymore by this author.

When I tell you this novel kept me on the edge of my seat, I am not being dramatic. This novel was perfectly paced. Typically I hate flashbacks, but the sequence in which Jenny places them and the pacing was perfect. I’m a huge fan of the thriller/suspense genre, and this is one of my top 5 of all time. Jenny Hollander, you brilliant minx. Incredible novel, I can’t wait to read what you publish next!!

Started off good but somewhere in the middle I lost interest. Seemed to drag and be repetitive. Some characters seemed cookie cutter

I literally devoured this book over two days. I was absolutely hooked. I loved the way the story unravelled and how it approached the unreliability of memory. The descriptions of trauma and panic attacks were so well written and I can't recommend this book enough!

The authors way of writing is very captivating - she is able to create a wonderful image for each scene she sets up. She writes about anxiety and PTSD beautifully and accurately, without being cliche. I enjoyed the story, characters and ending. It was one of the quickest I have read a book this year as I really wanted to know where it was going.

I loved this book! It's a really twisty thriller with compelling characters. Making the main character a magazine editor and her fiancee a publishing scion gives it a real gloss of wealth that's compulsive to read but the characters have a lot of depth too. I raced to the end, highly recommend.
