Requesting reasonable adjustments: guidance for applicants

We are committed to ensuring that our recruitment processes are inclusive and accessible for disabled and neurodivergent applicants.

Email us if a disability means you need adjustments to any part of the recruitment process: [email protected].

We’d also encourage you to speak to us when:

  • You need an alternative route to apply for a vacancy due to disability
  • You have questions on the application process, interview and/or assessment format, to help you decide if you need to request an adjustment
  • You have a request for an alternative interview date or time.

Types of adjustments

We consider requests for adjustments individually. We consider requests within the context and practicality of the role.

Adjustments can include:

  • relevant documents being provided in an accessible format (such as large print or electronic versions)
  • interview questions or agenda being provided in advance of the interview
  • extra time provision for assessments and interviews, as well as the chance to take pauses or rest breaks when needed
  • accessible interview locations
  • the option to attend an interview online rather than in-person
  • a visual guide document to assist in finding the interview location
  • a link to test the software and set up for an online interview.

This is not a fully comprehensive list. We understand that everyone’s individual requirements are unique. We aim to support you with the adjustments you need where possible, and at each stage, so you can feel comfortable and can perform at your best.

Communication support at interview

If you need communication support at interview, such as a British Sign Language interpreter, please apply directly to the government’s Access to Work scheme for financial support.
