Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin will helm a new Mummy film slated for release in 2026, here are the details.
The Mummy was, of course, part of the stable of classic movie monsters at Universal in the 1930s, which also included Dracula, Frankenstein and The Wolfman. Incidentally Gods And Monsters, the biopic of Frankenstein director James Whale starring Ian McKellen and Brendan Fraser, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video and is well worth watching.
Fraser headlined the 1990s/early 2000s trilogy of Mummy films, alongside Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo and, in The Mummy Returns, Dwayne Johnson, who went on to star in spin-off The Scorpion King, which also lived on through a plethora of straight to DVD sequels. There were plans for a fourth Fraser Mummy film but, for various reasons, it never happened – we wrote about it here.

Well, it is Christmas time, so it makes sense that Blumhouse would give us a lovely gift to unwrap – a new The Mummy movie! After several big-screen iterations, including 1932’s version with Boris Karloff, the cult-classic Brendan Fraser-fronted adventure movies, and the slightly more ill-fated, Tom Cruise-starring, supposed Dark Universe-starting 2017 take, Universal’s mummified monster is back. At the helm will be writer and director Lee Cronin, the man behind 2023’s excellent Evil Dead Rise.
A Cronin project had been on the books for a while, announced earlier this year, but confirmation that it’s a new spin on The Mummy came today via an Instagram post from Cronin and Blumhouse. It reveals the script’s title page, with the caption ‘Something terrifying will be unleashed in 2026’.

A little over seven years after the last attempt to reboot the property failed, Blumhouse have revealed they're working on a new Mummy movie. The horror franchise first launched in 1932 and was part of the Universal Classic Monsters collection, with Boris Karloff portraying the titular entity before passing the reins on to Tom Tyler, Lon Chaney Jr. and Eddie Parker. The years since have seen two rebooted versions of The Mummy franchise, beginning with the Brendan Fraser-led movies from Stephen Sommers, which also included the Scorpion King spinoffs, and Tom Cruise's failed 2017 reboot meant to launch the interconnected Dark Universe.
The official Blumhouse Twitter page have unveiled that a new Mummy movie is in the works from writer/director Lee Cronin, who recently excelled with Evil Dead Rise. The post features a script page with the title scratched out featuring Cronin's credit with "Original Screenplay by" and both...

Can you believe it’s been over a decade since Spartacus first brought its blood-soaked, action-packed drama to our screens? Back in 2010, this hit show redefined the historical epics with its unapologetic intense storytelling and raw actions. Though Gladiator and Rome did lay the groundwork for sword-and-sandal greatness, Spartacus intensified the level, delivering four seasons of unforgettable action.
Of course, it wasn’t just the on-screen drama that had us hooked to our screens, behind the scenes, the heartbreaking loss of Andy Whitfield after Season 1 broke our hearts. But the series persevered, with Liam McIntyre stepping in to finish this epic saga of the Thracian rebel leader.

Brendan Fraser has had a career with highs and lows, spanning almost three and a half decades from his first performance back in 1991. Fraser is known for his charisma and versatility, able to portray a wide variety of characters in multiple genres, from action-packed thrillers to more serious dramas to zany comedies. His movie star's persona and natural command of the screen helped him become an A-List Hollywood mainstay during the late 1990s.
Though best known more recently for his Oscar-winning leading role performance as Charlie in The Whale, Fraser has forged a career that is littered with underrated gems. Some of Fraser's best films, such as Bedazzled and Airheads, show off his comedic timing and impeccable presence while also delivering the same subtle intensity in more nuanced roles in films like Gods and Monster. It's not always clear why one fantasy TV show is popular while another one fails to capture the attention of audiences. However, the most popular additions to the genre in recent years have all been crossover hits that connect with viewers who would typically tune into speculative fiction, as well as a variety of other audiences. These new viewers found themselves drawn into the intricate world-building and storytelling of these projects. Since fantasy has been gaining traction with wider audiences, it's high time that overlooked and forgotten series are brought back to the forefront of the conversation.
While there are some fantasy TV shows that continued for too many seasons, these overlooked series were typically cut short. However, even those who had years of success haven't enjoyed the same legacy as the fantastical projects that will be remembered for years to come. There are many reasons why these shows have been largely forgotten,...

Outlander fans may be drawn to the Scottish crime drama Rebus thanks to its star, Richard Rankin. But after the very first scene, they might ask themselves: “Roger who?”
Indeed, the Viaplay series’ opening moments introduce Rankin as brooding Det. John Rebus, a man capable of violence and prone to making bad decisions. The character is a far cry from the much gentler role of Roger Wakefield MacKenzie, whom Rankin plays in Starz’s time-traveling romance.

Industry insiders couldn’t hide their excitement about the English-language series “El Turco,” which bowed a first-look trailer at Mipcom. Neither could its protagonist Can Yaman.
“I can’t wait for people to meet him,” said the Turkish star.
In a show based on a true story, Yaman plays an Ottoman Janissary who finds refuge in an Italian village of Moena after the battle of Vienna in 1683. Nursed back to health by a local witch, he slowly convinces the villagers to fight for their rights.
“I first went to Italy to do ‘Sandokan’ but it had to be pushed back, also because of the pandemic,” he revealed, opening up about his unusual acting trajectory. In that show, he’ll be joined by Ed Westwick and John Hannah. In the meantime, Yaman also acted in “Viola Come il Mare.”
“It was a great chance for me because I actually studied Italian in my childhood.

“In Europe we are accustomed to producing with a bit less money and finding solutions,” declared Luca Bernabei as he spoke about how his Fremantle-backed production outfit Lux Vide has had to keep costs down on Jesse Williams-starrer Costiera and upcoming epic Sandokan.
Bernabei pointed to a “tricky” financial market in which American buyers are looking to Europeans for guidance on how to make shows for that little bit less.
“Europe has been doing this for a long time,” Bernabei told Deadline on the Fremantle stand at MIPCOM. “The producer has to be smart and find new ways of making shows.”
Starring John Hannah, Ed Westwick, Alanah Bloor and Can Yaman, Sandokan is a case in point. The pirate series based on the old novels by Emilio Salgari, which has been adapted several times before for the big and small screen, is yet to find a buyer, with Fremantle deficit financing.

Welcome to London’s seedy underworld of crime and unexpected calamity. “Gangster’s Kiss” gives us a backstage pass to this vibrant criminal scene through the lens of unlikely protagonist Jack, an aspiring actor who finds himself in over his head after deciding to research a gangster role.
Directed by Ray Burdis with a script co-written by Burdis and star Michael Head, this British comedy brings together a stellar cast of renowned talents like Martin Kemp and Patsy Kensit alongside rising stars Charlie Clapham and Vas Blackwood.
The film centers around Jack and his childhood best mate Danny, now grown into a career criminal working for his uncle Don, a notorious crime boss. Eager to ace his newest acting job but short on authentic grit, Jack seeks to follow Danny and observe life on the streets. Little does anyone suspect how badly things may spin out with an off-the-cuff celebrity in their midst.

"Are you a wolf in sheep's clothes?" Signature Entertainment in the UK has revealed their own official UK trailer for the crime thriller called Damaged, made by filmmaker Terry McDonough. We already posted the original US trailer and the film opened in the US in the spring earlier this year. The film follows Dan Lawson, a Chicago detective, who travels to Scotland to link up with Scottish Det. Glen Boyd, following the resurgence of a serial killer who's crimes match an unsolved case that he also looked into five years previous in Chicago. Will they figure out the connection or not? Samuel L. Jackson stars as Lawson, and Scottish actor Gianni Capaldi co-stars as Boyd, also credited on co-writing the screenplay. The tagline asks: "How do you catch a brilliant monster?" So many crime thrillers these days about "smart" criminals. The cast also includes Vincent Cassel, Laura Haddock, John Hannah,...

The British gangster genre has long had a place in pop culture, known for characters that are by turns hilarious and moving. Bermondsey Tales: Fall of the Roman Empire fits neatly into this tradition with a cast of complex characters you can’t help but become invested in. We meet the Roman family, a South London crime outfit facing threats from within and without. Henry Roman in particular captures our interest—a troubled soul at the center of many competing loyalties and ambitions.
As the film introduces us to this sprawling clan, their humanity shines through despite their criminal dealings. Henry struggles with past tragedy and family demands, while his brother Jimmy navigates romance alongside a playboy reputation. Meanwhile, Charlie’s daughter Chloe seeks connection despite a difficult upbringing. Their interwoven stories keep viewers guessing in an entertaining blend of humor, pathos, and twisting plotlines.

Lucy Lawless' return as Lucretia in Spartacus: House of Ashur promises thrilling twists and intriguing revenge plots. Lawless' portrayal as Lucretia showcases her exceptional acting range and ability to embody complex characters. The potential for alternate timelines and character arcs enhances the excitement for the Spartacus spinoff series.
Lucy Lawless will join the cast in a new Spartacus spinoff, Spartacus: House of Ashur, which makes me way more excited for the show. This new Spartacus spinoff cast reveal represents a what-if Spartacus scenario, departing from previous events. Her guest-starring role will elevate what unfolds around her, while establishing a further connection to the original series. Her role will be pivotal in establishing the shows alternate reality storyline.
I loved Lawless work in Xena: Warrior Princess. It showcased her ability to embody a complex, multifaceted female character. The prospect of seeing her return to a similar role in the Spartacus franchise is thrilling.

Exclusive: Starz’s return to the Spartacus universe with House of Ashur poses the question: What if Ashur (Nick Tarabay) hadn’t died on Mount Vesuvius at the end of Spartacus: Vengeance and instead was gifted Batiatus’s Ludus in return for helping to kill Spartacus and end the slave rebellion?

Fraser’s dashing American soldier of fortune ventures to the ancient Egyptian city of the dead in this good-natured and entertainingly silly film
Twenty-five years ago, action-adventure maestro Stephen Sommers had a big summer hit on his hands; as writer and director he had revived the renowned Universal Studios scary-movie brand as a fun family film in the Indiana Jones style. Arnold Vosloo had the role that Boris Karloff played in the 1930s: Imhotep, the high priest bandaged up for death by mummification on account of his treachery in ancient Egypt and accidentally brought back from the undead thousands of years later by romantic adventurers and scamps of the 20th century’s Jazz Age, seeking excitement and enlightenment in Egypt.
But our heroes are scholar and librarian Evelyn Carnahan, played by Rachel Weisz, her madcap brother Jonathan (John Hannah), their roguish guide Gad Hassan (Omid Djalili) and, most importantly, dashing...

You know you love her, and why wouldn't you?
Eva Longoria is not only a talented actress who chooses projects that speak not just to her amazing acting talent but resonate with her heart in a way that shows in her performances.
She may have gotten recognition from her role on a drama-dripping soap opera with a cast of actors who have no right to be as attractive as they are talented, but Longoria has proven she is so much more than a pretty face and a smile that could melt steel.
With wins from the Screen Actors Guild and the People's Choice, the actress is a familiar face who has been entertaining folks since the start of the millennium.
If this fantastic woman hasn't won you over yet, do a quick search of her to see how she brings thousands of dollars to charities and foundations that help impoverished communities and immigrants worldwide.

While many sequels and spin-offs came and went, 1999’s The Mummy will always remain the O.G. with others failing to compete with it. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz were absolutely incredible in their roles and their chemistry was off the charts. The film went on to do quite well at the box office and even though it received mixed reviews from critics, everyone will agree that The Mummy is a cult classic now.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are back on the big screen together, as 1999’s The Mummy comes back to UK cinemas.
Given what a seismic year for cinema 1999 turned out to be – indeed, books have been written about it – it’s perhaps unsurprising that we’re getting a growing number of 25th anniversary celebrations.
Next up? That’d be The Mummy, the 1999 take on the Universal classic monster, that starred Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. It’s the best Indiana Jones film since Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade too, and while Stephen Sommer’s movie was followed by a couple of sequels, none came close to the fun of the 1999 film.
We now learn that the movie will be back in UK cinemas this coming July – on 5th July, as it happens – and it looks like it’s getting a relatively wide re-release too. Oftentimes, such re-releases are restricted to big cities,...

The TV series Spartacus is based on the real-life legend, but much of the story is fictionalized, although the first season stays fairly true to historical facts. The portrayal of Spartacus' origins as a Thracian slave who becomes a renowned gladiator is historically accurate, but his ties with the Roman Empire are uncertain. The show accurately depicts the gladiator lifestyle and incorporates real-life historical figures who played roles in Spartacus' rebellion, although some details may be dramatized for entertainment purposes.
Much like the classic movie starring Kirk Douglas, the Starz series Spartacus is a true story though it makes notable differences to what actually happened. The series focused on Spartacus during three key moments in his life, from his time as a slave all the way to his death. The legend of Spartacus is so popular that it has been adapted into several forms of media over the years, including the 1960 film by Stanley Kubrick.

Michael Head stars in this less than convincing story of a London crime lord and his associates
There was a period in the Cool Britannia days when you couldn’t throw a brick at a cinema in the UK without hitting a British gangster movie with a castful full of dodgy geezers blagging their way around an underground scene full of drugs and farfetched capers. Some were ludicrously entertaining creations of actual working-class talent, such as Nick Love’s The Business, others transcended genre pigeonholing to work their way into various top critics’ lists (such as Jonathan Glazer’s Sexy Beast), and still others were Guy Ritchie movies. There were hundreds of less high-profile efforts too, destined for VHS or DVD, but each having somehow found funding.
These days the British gangster flick is no longer flavour of the week, or month, and there’s something appealingly bullish about attempts to make these films now.

Romancing the Mummy.
After concluding April with discussions of Ciarán Foy’s Eli (listen), a horror version of The Boy in the Plastic Bubble, and the pseudo-sequel to Videodrome in David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ (listen), we’re kicking off May with a revisit to one of our favorite years for cinema: 1999! The film we’ve selected is Stephen Sommer‘s action-adventure-horror-romantic-comedy The Mummy!
In the film, adventurer Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) travels to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead, with librarian Evelyn “Evy” Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) and her older brother Jonathan (John Hannah). While there, they accidentally awaken Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), a cursed high priest-turned-invincible mummy, and must stop him before he sacrifices Evy in an attempt to resurrect his former lover (Patricia Velásquez).

Love is in the air in This Time Next Year, which is heading onto digital platforms this June. More on the film below.
It’s been a pretty good few months for fans of rom-coms. We’re still pretty amazed at just how well Anyone But You has done and we’re still now over Rye Lane’s emotional punch.
Now, Signature Entertainment has acquired the UK and Irish rights to Nick Moore’s rom-com This Time Next Year, as reported by Deadline. The film is written by Sophie Cousens, based on her own book and the film stars Sophie Cookson and Lucien Laviscount as the leads. John Hannah, Golda Rosheuvel, Monica Dolan, Mandip Gill and Anita Dobson also star.
Here’s the This Time Next Year trailer:
The film revolves around Minnie (Cookson) and Quinn (Laviscount), who discover they were born on the same day in the same hospital.

Universal Pictures’ The Mummy franchise was a fan favorite when it starred Brendan Fraser as the leading man Rick O’Connell. The first two films in the trilogy were directed by Stephen Sommers, also starred Rachel Weisz and John Hannah, and were box office successes. However, the reboot starring Tom Cruise was a gigantic failure critically and commercially.
While Cruise’s film ended what Universal planned as a series of monster films with a shared universe, a recent fan-made trailer seemed to have followed it up with a new cast. The new trailer is titled The Mummy: Resurrection and sees Keanu Reeves take over the franchise to battle a new evil spirit buried in an Egyptian tomb.

Ed Westwick (“Gossip Girl”), John Hannah (“The Mummy”) and British newcomer Alanah Bloor are set to join Turkish lead Can Yaman in “Sandokan,” Lux Vide’s reboot of the cult Italian TV series about the adventures of its titular pirate who, with his motley crew, fights against colonial powers in Southeast Asia.
Shooting is set to start April 22 outside Rome on this high-end reboot of Italian writer Emilio Salgari’s exotic epic. The original “Sandokan,” directed in 1976 by Sergio Sollima, catapulted Indian actor Kabir Bedi to Bollywood stardom, having sold to more than 85 countries around the world.
Fremantle-owned Lux Vide’s new spin on the storied “Sandokan” IP is based on an idea by Lux Vide CEO Luca Bernabei developed for TV by Alessandro Sermoneta (“Devils”); Scott Rosenbaum (“The Shield”); Davide Lantieri (“Monterossi”) and directed by Jan Maria Michelini (“Devils”) and Nicola Abbatangelo (“Doc”).

Just once, it would be refreshing to see a serial killer movie in which the detectives investigating a series of horrific murders were actually normal, well-adjusted individuals. The kind of cops who leave their work at the office, go home to their families, and drink only the occasional beer or glass of wine at dinner. The ones, in other words, who don’t live up to the title of the new thriller featuring a top-billed Samuel L. Jackson but in which the real leading player is Gianni Capaldi, who also co-scripted.
That’s definitely not the case with Damaged, a routine cop movie mainly distinguished by its extensive Scottish locations. Jackson plays Dan Lawson, a Chicago detective still haunted by a bunch of killings years earlier in which one of the victims was his own girlfriend. When a similar series of murders — in which the victims’ bodies are dismembered and...

Plot: Dan Lawson, a Chicago detective, travels to Scotland to link up with Scottish Det. Boyd, following the resurgence of a serial killer whose crimes match an unsolved case that he looked into 5 years previous in Chicago.
Review: Ever since David Fincher’s Se7en, I’ve been a fan of the simple premise of a detective hunting down a serial killer. This game of cat and mouse allows for just the right amount of mystery and intrigue that will keep you guessing until the end. I’d argue the big reveal at the end is nearly as synonymous with crime thrillers as cops and criminals. If there’s one thing a good mystery needs, it’s something unexpected. And Damaged certainly has that.
The story follows Detective Lawson (Samuel L. Jackson) as he travels to Scotland to help with a case. Someone is recreating the murders that Lawson investigated back in Chicago five years prior,...

After spending years in development hell, during which time it passed through the hands of popular genre filmmakers like George A. Romero, Mick Garris, Clive Barker, and Joe Dante, a reboot of the 1932 Universal Monsters classic The Mummy made its way out into the world in 1999 with Deep Rising writer/director Stephen Sommers at the helm. Made on a budget of $80 million, the new take on The Mummy was a box office success, earning over $416 million worldwide. Mixing horror, adventure, and comedy, it was a film that could be enjoyed by adults while also serving as gateway horror for a new generation of genre fans. Many see The Mummy (1999) as a beloved classic these days – so it makes sense that Universal has decided to give the film a theatrical re-release for its 25th anniversary. It will be back on the big screen in theatres nationwide starting April 26th, and tickets...

"You have unleashed the creature that we have feared for more than 3000 years." It's returning to theaters later in April! Finally! I love this movie so much. At an archaeological dig in the ancient city of Hamunaptra, an American in the French Foreign Legion accidentally awakens a mummy who begins to wreak havoc as he searches for the reincarnation of his long-lost love. "As we celebrate its 25th anniversary, we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring it back to the big screen. A fantastic opportunity for both devoted fans & newcomers to immerse themselves in the exhilarating adventure and timeless story." The Mummy stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, with Oded Fehr as Ardeth...
