It’s been nearly 40 years since Daniel Larusso crane-kicked his way into our hearts in The Karate Kid, and this franchise still packs a punch. With Netflix’s Cobra Kai keeping the dojo alive and the buzzworthy Karate Kid: Legends gearing up for 2025, fans are in for a nostalgia-fueled treat.
But wait, we’ve got more. Sony’s teasing a return to the original Karate Kid franchise, though whispers of a soft reboot have us wondering, will this be a new chapter or a cheeky remix? Either way, the legacy of wax-on, wax-off shows no signs of slowing, proving that Karate Kid is still the master of staying relevant.

The actors shot to stardom together with a series of winning projects—most made with celebrated writer/director Edgar Wright—including the sitcom Spaced, the “zom-com” Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End. Both actors have also thrived in their own rights, with Frost appearing in projects like Attack the Block, Truth Seekers, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and Pegg in the Mission: Impossible series, the J.J. Abrams Star Trek series, and The Boys. Their breakout film, Shaun of the Dead, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024.

Katee Sackhoff and Emily Swallow, who play Bo-Katan Kryze and the Armorer respectively in The Mandalorian, have addressed questions about season 4 of the Star Wars TV show in reference to Lucasfilm's intense secrecy. Swallow has been a part of The Mandalorian ever since season 1, and with Sackhoff officially debuting as Bo-Katan in season 2, both actors have long since been a part of The Mandalorian's cast. As such, they have become quite familiar with both the secrecy surrounding Star Wars projects and the questions that they're often asked about them - something they have since reflected on.
On Sackhoff's podcast, The Sackhoff Show, Swallow discussing her audition experience for The Mandalorian inspires a conversation about the overall secrecy that has always been attached to The Mandalorian. Sackhoff begins by saying that she often has to tell people, "I can't tell you," but that "oftentimes, I don't know." Sackhoff continues,...

A new Street Fighter movie is due to hit theaters in 2026, and while the original was universally regarded as a train wreck, the remake needs to bring back one element that defined 1994's Street Fighter. Written and directed by one of the 1980s and 1990s' go-to action filmmakers, Steven E. de Souza, Street Fighter adapted the content of Capcom's video game into a movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Van-Damme portrayed one of the game's fighters, Colonel Guile, and his team of recruited fighters as they attempt to bring down the evil General M. Bison.
The movie featured many of the video game's most famous and popular characters, including Chun-Li (Ming-Na Wen), Ryu (Byron Mann), and Zangief (Andrew Bryniarski) separated into two camps, leading to plenty of fighting action. While video game movies historically haven't been successful either critically or at the box office, Street Fighter is regarded as a...

Ming-Na Wen dreamed of being in Star Wars for decades before it finally happened. Now she has portrayed her character, Fennec Shand, across three separate TV shows across the franchise -- and it's likely her time in a galaxy far, far away isn't over just yet.
Landing the role of the bounty hunter in The Mandalorian, while a dream come true for the actor, wasn't as difficult as one might expect. She recently spoke about the experience with Katee Sackhoff on the latter's podcast, revealing the process didn't follow the typical path an actor would normally follow to obtain an on-screen role.
She told Sackhoff: "Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, they wrote this character ... Deborah Chow said 'You know what? I'm going to mention you to Jon and Dave.' And she did ... they just offered me the role. I didn't have to audition for it."

As Skeleton Crew draws close to the finish line, the remaining episodes are guaranteed to be more exciting than anything else we've seen. In the last seven years, these three Disney princess actresses have all joined Star Wars—one as recently as December 2024. When Disney bought Star Wars, plenty of jokes were made about Princess Leia now technically being a Disney princess. Of course, as much discourse as there has been about this, Leia isn't really a Disney princess at all, because that label has its own meaning.
Since Disney's acquisition of Star Wars in 2012, however, Star Wars' movies and TV shows have cast three actresses who really did have leading roles in Disney's princess movies. The most recent addition was introduced in episode 5 of Star Wars' newest TV show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Although she might look and sound quite different in this new role, Skeleton Crew's brand-new bounty hunter, Pokkit, shares an actress with one of Disney's most popular princesses from 12 years ago.

In her quest for revenge, rogue samurai Mizu (Maya Erskine), the protagonist of Netflix's stunning adult animated series Blue Eye Samurai, finds herself taking on a devastating side quest for Madame Kaji (Ming-Na Wen). Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu, a half-white, half-Japanese woman and self-trained samurai, on her mission to track down the four white men who were in Japan at the time of her birth. Having been treated as a monster her entire life because of her mixed ethnicity, Mizu plans to kill all of them in revenge.
This brings her to Madame Kaji, whose brothel caters to the fortress where Abijah Fowler (Kenneth Branagh) has taken refuge. In exchange for explaining how to reach Fowler, Kaji asks Mizu to undertake another job first. Kaji previously housed Kinuyo, a mute girl Kaji saved from an abusive father until the town's cruel overlord took Kinuyo by force and began to abuse her daily.

There's only one thing more frustrating than playing a video game and dying to the same boss over and over again -- watching someone die to the same boss over and over again by repeating the same mistakes and refusing to learn from them. Any video game fan can empathize with this, having either endured a bad couch co-op session or, more metaphorically speaking, witnessed decades of Hollywood's failed video game adaptations.
From distorted lore and thematic ideas to poor casting, direction, and writing, studios have stumbled over the same mistakes time and time again on their quest to cash in on an $180 billion industry. Though the dawn seems to be approaching -- with Amazon Prime Video's "Fallout" and HBO's "The Last of Us" proving the subgenre is capable of greatness -- recent theatrical releases prove the night is far from over.

It’s been a long road but the final batch of episodes from the sixth and final season of “Cobra Kai” finally drop in February.
In a new trailer teasing the series’ finale, Netflix announced that Season 6 Part 3 will hit the streamer on February 13, 2025. The release of Part 3 comes eight months after Part 1 – and the first five episodes of Season 6 – dropped back in July 2024.
The announcement came paired with a short teaser that celebrated not just the history of the series, but of the entire “Karate Kid” world that came before it.
“Four decades of history all leading to this moment,” Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) says over scenes from the original films. “A legacy that will live forever.”
“This may be the end, but Cobra Kai never dies,” Johnny (William Zabka) says as the teaser ends.
A lot was left up in the air after Part 2’s episodes aired in November.

Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has brought fans numerous iconic moments. The threequel, Spider-Man: No Way Home, not only brought the three major iterations of the superhero together but also had some heart-wrenching moments for Holland’s Peter Parker.
Having lost Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May, Holland’s character almost kills the Green Goblin, only to be stopped by Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker. Lost to his thirst for revenge, albeit temporarily, Holland’s character almost brings an end to Green Goblin.
However, even that moment is not the coldest we have seen Peter Parker act, as this House of M storyline may have gone a step further.

Wax On, Wax Off. For those of us who lived through the 1980s, The Karate Kid has been in our lives in one way or another. Even if you have never seen any of the films, you know what Wax On, Wax Off means. In 2018, we got to take a trip back to the All Valley Karate Tournament to see what Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence were up to. The series Cobra Kai became a big hit on Netflix (after moving from YouTube Red), but with that series winding down, are we saying goodbye to our beloved characters? Not quite yet.

Jackie Chan is easily one of the most iconic actors out there, widely known for his martial arts cinema and playing a huge role in The Karate Kid universe. Along with Chan, Chinese-born Singaporean actor Jet Li is also quite famous in the martial arts genre, and the two iconic actors shared a great friendship.

One of the most interesting upcoming movies is Karate Kid: Legends, a film that not only continues the long-running Karate Kid franchise, but melds the original films with the 2010 reboot movie. Legends' cast is headlined by Ralph Macchio, star of the original Karate Kid films, and Jackie Chan, who played Mr. Han in the reboot. This sequel is exciting because it blends the original films, the reboot, and the immensely popular Cobra Kai, but there is one character who has gained significant importance in the franchise since its resurgence, who is notably absent from the film.
That character is Johnny Lawrence, played by William Zapka, who was the antagonist of the original 1984 classic, and one of the star cast members of Cobra Kai. While his original role is as more of a one-note bully, Johnny's growth shown in Cobra Kai has made him one of the most beloved characters in the entire Karate Kid franchise.

Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan join forces to help a young kung-fu prodigy in Karate Kid: Legends. Take a look at the first trailer for the new sequel.
The Karate Kid franchise, it seems, has never been more popular. The sensei are teaming up. On Tuesday, Sony released a trailer for Karate Kid: Legends, which will return the Karate Kid franchise to the big screen and unite two strands of the franchise for the first time. In the film, Ralph Macchio’s karate master Daniel Larusso, from the ‘80s Karate Kid movies and “Cobra Kai,” and Jackie Chan’s kung fu teacher, Mr. Han, from the 2010 reboot with Jaden Smith, work together to train a teenage karate student named Li Fong (Ben Wang).
The trailer finds Mr. Han seeking Daniel’s help in training Li, a New Yorker with a lot of promise but some personal troubles. When they meet, Daniel assumes Han is looking for his late sensei, Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), who taught him everything he knows. “I did not come looking for Sensei Miyagi,” Han says. “I came looking for you.”

In the new trailer for Karate Kid: Legends, Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan team up to usher in the next generation, mentoring a new student named Li Fong (played by American Born Chinese star Ben Wang).
The clip begins with a brief narration about the virtues of martial arts before Chan’s Mr. Han recruits Macchio, who first played Daniel Larusso in the original 1984 Karate Kid movie. When they meet, Macchio understandably asks Chan if he knew the late Mr. Miyagi, but Chan responds, “I came looking for you.”
As it turns out, Chan is seeking Macchio’s help with Li, who he says “means to me what you meant to Sensei Miyagi.” The action begins from there, with glimpses of a training montage, a karate tournament, and more excitingly, street fighting.
There’s also a touching moment when Macchio gifts Wang with a headband like the one he received from Miyagi.

Karate Kid: Legends has a significant advantage over any of the other installments in the Karate Kid franchise, but it will still have to fight hard to prove itself. The upcoming movie, which is expected to hit theaters in May 2025, is a highly anticipated sequel to both 1984's The Karate Kid and its 2010 remake. Though the semantics of how these two stories will come together is still unclear, the union of Ralph Macchio's Daniel Larusso and Jackie Chan's Mr. Han is undoubtedly promising. Still, these two actors and their respective characters aren't all Karate Kid: Legends has going for it over its predecessors.
The Karate Kid franchise got its first movie in 1984, featuring Macchio's Daniel Larusso in the titular role. Then came The Karate Kid Part 2 in 1986 and The Karate Kid Part 3 in 1989, both of which featured Macchio and Pat Morita as the leads. In 1994, Morita...

There's no denying that the four kids at the heart of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew are largely responsible for the positive attention the show is getting, but everything about the story got more intriguing with the introduction of Jude Law's Jod Na Nawood. The Academy Award-nominated British actor has won praise and twenty awards for his work, and as of December 12, 2024, he is a permanent part of Los Angeles when Law received a star on the Walk of Fame.
What is the Walk of Fame?
The Hollywood Walk of Fame has been an attraction in Los Angeles since February 9, 1960. California tourism site Or Los Angeles quotes its champion E.M. In some of the more bizarre and unexpected casting news we've shared in quite a while, The Bear and The Iron Claw star Jeremy Allen White is set to join the Star Wars universe in The Mandalorian and Grogu... as the son of Jabba the Hutt!
The news was first reported by Jeff Sneider on Kristian Harloff's YouTube show, and THR has since confirmed that White will provide the voice of Rotta the Hutt in the movie, which will see the return of Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, along with the adorable Force-sensitive alien who was dubbed "Baby Yoda" by the fan community before his real name was revealed during the Disney+ series.
Sigourney Weaver is also on board in an undisclosed role.

Jeremy Allen White has joined “Star Wars” film “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” playing the voice of Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta the Hutt, Variety has confirmed. The project marks the first major franchise for the actor following his Emmy-winning breakout role on the FX series “The Bear.”
Plot details have been hard to come by for “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” so White’s casting as Jabba’s son provides the first real glimpse for what could be in store for the titular bounty hunter and his adorably wee adopted son. The box office record-breaking success of "Wicked" is once again proving the crowd-pleasing chops of Jon M. It's safe to say that it's a movie with a lot of fans.

Jackie Chan once attempted to break out of his signature comedy style in the early part of the millennium when he made New Police Story, which had him playing a more dramatic role as an alcoholic ex-cop. He would follow it up with 2005’s The Myth, which would be half of an Armor of God-type movie where he played an archeologist and half of a period film where Chan also played a General of a historical Chinese army. Chan returns with a new sequel to The Myth, titled A Legend. This film reunites him with director Stanley Tong, who directed Chan in movies like Rumble in the Bronx and Police Story 3: Supercop.

Disney movies are known for their family-friendly atmospheres, but some of the most popular Disney characters actually kill their enemies. This isn't exactly in line with Disney's image of magical family entertainment, but it just proves that Disney can get surprisingly dark sometimes. While it isn't too much of a shock to see Disney villains with a murderous streak, some beloved heroes have also killed other characters.
The charming animation style of Disney's movies can often conceal a lot of darkness and violence that wouldn't be as appropriate for younger audiences in live-action. The fact that so many Disney characters have stacked up imposing kill counts without being known as killers highlights how the studio puts a magic sheen over most things. However, when some movies are examined more closely, some beloved Disney icons are revealed to be killers.
