Just like in George A. Romero's 1978 original, the bulk of Zack Snyder's 2004 remake of "Dawn of the Dead" takes place in a shopping mall. In both films, a group of still-living people take refuge while scads of the undead shamble up against the walls outside. The commentary, of course, is that even after zombification, people still want to worship at consumerism's most powerful megachurch: the modern mall. All their memories and humanity have been erased by zombie-ism, but shopping remains one of their basest instincts. It's hardly a nuanced or complex theme, but it does make both films slightly more interesting.
Snyder's film is more energetic and playful than Romero's, an odd thing to say, given how turgid, humorless, and self-important the bulk of Snyder's films tend to be. One might credit the film's levity to the notoriously jocular screenwriter James Gunn, the director of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies.

Jennifer Lawrence has never made it a secret that she had an absolute ball on the sets of The Hunger Games movies. Despite the intense subject matter of the dystopian films, the actors were constantly horsing around when the cameras weren’t rolling. Lawrence loved working with her fellow castmates on the films. In fact, she named Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth as the actors she had the most fun with while on set. But even the three musketeers were bound to have some low moments while filming. One such moment included Lawrence giving Hutcherson a concussion.

Divorce and co-parenting are never easy, even for celebrities, but some couples are able to make it work. Kirsten Storms, who plays Maxie Jones on General Hospital, was once married to her former co-star Brandon Barash.
Barash played Johnny Zacchara on the soap. His character was a brooding and volatile mobster with a heart of gold. Barash left Gh in 2016 when Zacchara was sentenced to prison.

Maxie is the daughter of super-couple Frisco Jones and Felicia Cummings. She has gotten into a lot of trouble through the years but has become a responsible mom and businesswoman with a problematic love life. Storms and Barash met on the set of Gh, and they tied the knot in 2013.

This article may contain references to brutal violence, murder, and death.
Stranger Things season 4 was packed with talent, including an appearance by Robert Englund, who is most well known for his role as the evil Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. The method used by season 4 villain Vecna to kill his victims made Englund's appearance all the better.
Although he hasn't been seen on film in over a decade after the reboot of the franchise flopped, Freddy Krueger has still racked up a number of kills over his 9 movie run. But while most deaths have been predictable, some have taken people off guard, either from the surprise of the kill or the brutal way the kill was performed.
Mark Davis
Before the MCU made crossovers even more famous, Freddy crossed over into the Friday the 13th franchise, where he would fight Jason Voorhees in the film Freddy vs Jason.

The tagline for this delightfully bonkers new comedy reads “The friendship we all want. The vacation we all need.” That’s a pretty perfect promotional line, given that we’re almost a year into a global pandemic where many of us can’t even go to a cinema, let alone on holiday. Thankfully, Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar delivers on its promise of unashamedly silly escapism, thanks to a consistently surprising script and charming comic chemistry between its two leads.

They’re more than friends, they’re family. That’s how Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig, the writers and stars of “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar,” see not just their creative relationship but their connection that spans decades. “I think it’s like the lightning bolt of finding a marriage partner,” says Mumolo. “I feel lucky that I have Kristen in my life. When you find someone you can laugh like that with, it’s such a healing.”
No surprise, Wiig feels the same: “We always joke that we’re each other’s creative wives,” she says.
In this bonus episode of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, Mumolo and Wiig talk about their lead roles, creating the hilarious characters and their songwriting partnership, with the addition of Mark Jonathan Davis, (the Los Angeles staple and one-time Kroq vet better known as Richard Cheese), on their Oscar-submitted song,...

The Leftovers began as a portrait of a small New York town tearing itself apart after a national tragedy. It ended with a final season that revolved, in large part, around an international scientific conspiracy involving Cousin Larry from Perfect Strangers. And over the course of getting from bereaved jus' folks to Mark Linn-Baker, Damon Lindelof's mediation on mourning in America became one of the most moving and thrilling television dramas of the young century.

WaterTower Music has announced the February 3 CD and digital release of the soundtrack to the new animated adventure “The Lego® Batman Movie,” one week before the film opens in theatres on February 10. The collection features new music from Dnce, Alex Aiono, Patrick Stump, Oh, Hush! feat. Will Arnett and Jeff Lewis, Kirsten Arian, Justin Tranter, and more. The album also includes 16 of the film’s score cues by Grammy-winning composer Lorne Balfe, and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) on drums.
The film’s director Chris McKay describes Balfe as “one of the most talented and versatile people I’ve ever met.”
“Chris is an encyclopedic reference for action hero films, but to him the important thing is the heart of the story, so I didn’t think of it as a comic, but as real, live action,” offers Balfe. “Every scene is amazing. After the first day working on the film,...

Doing their bit to help spread the word for World Hepatitis Day RedPill have joined up with hand puppeteer Leo Petersen, better known as Lejo, for this little video.
It’s a deceptively simple premise and it has a very catchy tune from Richard Cheese and the wonderfully named Lounge against the Machine. While it’s not exactly movie-related we wanted to support a good cause and throw an earworm your way.

Depending on where your opinion of "Man of Steel" lies, you may have spent the past week singing the praises of Zack Snyder for being the director to finally get Superman right. His take on the last son of Krypton is certainly worth discussing, but another one of his movies, his first, deserves a second look this week for an entirely unrelated reason.
In light of Brad Pitt's "World War Z" hitting screens this week, it's worth remembering that Snyder's 2004 remake of "Dawn of the Dead" is the best modern zombie movie.
It was nearly ten years ago that Snyder and his screenwriter, future "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn, took the set-up from George Romero's classic and adapted it lovingly into a modern setting without losing the spirit that made the original film so unique for its time. What the dozens of zombie movies that came...

At first glance, you may think of Kate Flannery as her drunken character Meredith on NBC's The Office. You may expect Creed or Kevin to pop out to join her or you may think that a bat will begin to circle her head soon with Dwight hovering over her with a black trash bag. Or, you could also think of a slew of other roles she plays like her work in her comedy act Lampshades, her stints on Saturday Night Live, Wendy in the Wendy's Hamburger commercials and even her work in the late Nora Ephron's "Love, Loss and What I Wore" on the New York stage. But despite having a memorable face and a shot glass usually glued to her hand, Kate has been able to step away from Dunder Mifflin for a bit to host the new TV Guide Network series StandUp in Stilettos.

Accusations will always follow Sonisphere festival – usually aimed from those most preposterously pretentious metal fans who frequent supposedly non-mainstream festivals like Bloodstock – that Sonisphere is little more than a sell-out event, aimed at watered-down metal fans of pop-edged bands who have long since let go their grip on creative integrity in favour of the almighty dollar.
But 2011′s fest boasted one of the most impressive line-ups rock festivals have seen for a good long while, thanks largely to the promise of the Big Four playing together on one stage in one glorious night, as well as talent from across almost every sub-genre of rock from pop-punk (Weezer, YouMeAtSix), to comedy-tinged re-imaginings (Hayseed Dixie, Richard Cheese) and the bona-fide megastars of Slipknot, Biffy Clyro
And no matter what pigeon-hole those bands might fall into, a festival experience that includes so much breadth, and so much inclusive passion for music in general...

Any musician, writer, artist or filmmaker knows that it's harder than ever to get funding for a project these days. Between the bad economy, the demise of many arts organizations and the shear quantity of great work out there, paying for a labor of love sometimes feels impossible.
But have no fear, Kickstarter is here. The website claims to be the largest funding platform for creative projects worldwide. The idea is a simple one. If you have a project, post it on Kickstarter. In exchange for donations, you give people a reward or experience related to your art. For example a musician can give away CDs or a chance to attend a concert. Or a filmmaker can give premiere tickets or an onscreen credit.
And if you're a modern day Lorenzo de Medici and fancy yourself a patron of the arts (or maybe you're just in need of a tax...

Currently on the road in the midst of the fourth Music As A Weapon Tour, David Draiman, frontman of Chicago's Disturbed, recently sat down with Fangoria Musick prior to a show to discuss music, film, and the horrors of real life and beyond.
James Zahn (Fangoria): When people hear the band Disturbed, I don’t think they necessarily associate you with the horror genre, but your latest album Indestructible is pretty dark in terms of subject matter, primarily with real-life horror…

As I write this, the padding in this cell is making me itch. It’s some kind of canvas-like material, beige, and very scratchy. It’s hard to write on and my fingers are so desiccated from blood loss that I’m almost out of ‘ink. I don’t like the light, it’s too bright by far, and the paper pajamas I’m wearing are starting to fall apart. They’re wet, largely because I was awoken this morning by an orderly that looked a lot like Doctor Raven (I think it was really James Zahn) in drag, throwing a large bucket of luke-warm water at me while yelling ‘Winna, Winna, Chickee Dinna!’ Suffice to say, it hasn’t been a good morning. However, he also threw in an album to review, and an axe to grind. Why do they continue giving me axes? Aren’t I supposed to be getting better?...

Well before Watchmen even went into production, we knew that a killer soundtrack would be involved -- not only because the graphic novel's universe revels in a slightly different form of pop culture, but because Zack Snyder is pretty into the world of cinematic music. Just a year ago, I wrote about Snyder raving about the lounge wonders of Richard Cheese, and wondered if that was a hint for things to come. It was merely wishful thinking, but I'm very happy to report that even without some campy lounge, this is going to be one hell of a soundtrack.
Three days before the film hits theaters, Sci Fi Wire reports that Warner Bros. will release two discs -- the soundtrack and the original score. Considering the huge number of people that will see this film, I can only hope that this inspires a new wave of retro apprectiation (sort of...
