‘Children of Blood and Bone’ is a 2018 romantic fantasy novel by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi. It’s her first book and the start of the ‘Legacy of Orïsha’ trilogy. The story follows Zélie Adebola, a young girl trying to bring magic back to the kingdom of Orïsha after the ruling class, the kosidáns, wiped out the maji, her people who once wielded magic.
Adeyemi spent 18 months and 45 drafts writing the novel, drawing inspiration from books like ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘An Ember in the Ashes,’ West African mythology, and Yoruba culture. She was also influenced by the pain of police violence against Black Americans.
The book was a huge success. It debuted at number one on ‘The New York Times’ Best Seller list for young adult books and received praise for tackling themes like oppression, racism, and slavery. It’s also a coming-of-age tale about young people finding the power to make change.

Natalie Portman's Queen Padmé Amidala played a vital role in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, but didn't live to witness the events of A New Hope and beyond after passing away while giving birth to twins Luke and Leia at the end of Revenge of the Sith.
Amidala's death is what ultimately pushed Anakin Skywalker to fully abandon the path of the Jedi and allow himself to be consumed be the Dark Side of the Force.
The Disney+ Star Wars shows have allowed us to revisit earlier timelines in the Galaxy Far, Far Away, and though we have seen both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprise their respective roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin/Darth Vader, Padme has yet to make an appearance. She has showed up in The Clone Wars animated series and several Star Wars novels, but we haven't seen her in live-action since Rots.

‘The Flash’ director Andy Muschietti thinks ‘The Flash’ failed because it didn’t “appeal to all four quadrants” of moviegoer demographics. The 51-year-old filmmaker helmed the 2023 DC Comics blockbuster - which starred Ezra Miller as the titular hero - has theorised the superhero flick flopped because it couldn’t attract a wide enough audience.During an appearance on Argentina’s Radio Tu, Muschietti said: “‘The Flash failed’, among all the other reasons because it wasn't a movie that appealed to all four quadrants.“It failed at that.”The ‘It’ director added general audiences “just don’t care about The Flash as a character” as much as other DC heroes like Batman or Superman. He continued: “When you spend $200 million making a movie, Warner [Bros.] wants to bring even your grandmother to the theatres. “And I've found in private conversations that a lot of people just don't care about The Flash as a character.

Ahsoka Season 2 Will See Game Of Thrones' Rory McCann Replace The Late Ray Stevenson As Baylan Skoll
Star Wars fans had wondered if we might see Baylan Skoll in the galaxy far, far away again despite actor Ray Stevenson's passing, and we now have confirmation that the character will return for the upcoming second season of Ahsoka.
First reported by Jeff Sneider and later confirmed by THR, Scottish actor Rory McCann, best known for playing The Hound on HBO’s Game of Thrones, is set to take over as Skoll in season 2 of the Disney+ Star Wars series.
Stevenson, who sadly died back in May of 2023 just before his 58th birthday, played the villainous(?) former Jedi in the series, and the finale featured his last scene as the character, as we see the powerful Force-wielder standing on the ruins of a mountain-sized sculpture of the Mortis gods.

After multiple issues, controversies, personnel changes, and mergers, the Dceu is finally done and dusted, with James Gunn taking over the reins as co-chief of DC Studios along with Peter Safran. The franchise, which was supposed to be a competitor to the MCU, crashed and burned but it was not without some genuinely good films.
The SnyderVerse is never happening. It is a miracle that fans even got the Snyder Cut. However, like how Gunn took the disastrous Suicide Squad and gave it a good direction with The Suicide Squad, there are a few more films from the Dceu that deserved better. Here are four films that need a second chance in the Dcu.
1. The Flash Ezra Miller in The Flash | Credits: Warner Bros.

With every awards season comes something new: emerging talent, groundbreaking technology, fresh storylines. This season, at least six new directors hit the ground running. Actor Embeth Davidtz (Schindler’s List, Matilda and The Morning Show) wrote and made her feature directorial debut, Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight, about a white Zimbabwean family following the Rhodesian Bush War; actor Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, Fargo, American Hustle), a grandson of John Huston, wrote and helmed the boxing drama Day of the Fight; Malcolm Washington, son of Denzel Washington, co-wrote and directed The Piano Lesson, based on the August Wilson play; cinematographer Rachel Morrison (Black Panther, Mudbound) jumped behind the camera for The Fire Inside, another boxing movie; Josh Margolin wrote and directed Thelma, based on something that happened to his grandmother; and film editor William Goldenberg (Argo, Zero Dark Thirty) helmed Unstoppable, about a boxer born with one leg.

It has already been five years since Disney+'s successful launch with its premier live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. With three seasons and twenty-four chapters in total, each episode is sure to pack a punch. However, some stand out as extra-special.
Here are the 5 best episodes of The Mandalorian in the past 5 years.

The sports genre can tell every kind of story, from a heartwarming underdog's redemption to a swan song for an aging star or a comedic twist on the sport at hand. With Yassir and Isaiah Lester's The Gutter, the filmmaking duo attempt to strike a chord similar to the likes of the Farrelly brothers' Kingpin and Rick Famuyiwa's Dope, delivering broadly humorous jokes amid a tale of an unlikely bowling superstar. And while they do often find their own unique rhythm, the movie still often largely feels too familiar to fully stand out.

When The Mandalorian started, it was an "adventure of the week" style that was, in many ways, also character-driven at the same time.
The earlier episodes allowed us to look at the galaxy through Din Djarin's eyes, but as the series progressed, Din's world became both larger and smaller. It became larger as his potential grew, and he opened his heart to new experiences, but it became smaller as he began to meet characters who knew more of the galaxy and its history than him. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and it wasn't an issue for the series until Season 3.
The Mandalorian Season 3 is where things undoubtedly began to go awry for the series, largely from the fact that while the story became larger in scope, focus shifted away from the titular Mandalorian. The Season 3 promotional tour was marred by controversial and confusing statements from the show's producers,...

Even in the established Star Wars canon, one can argue that there are two different versions of Grand Admiral Thrawn in the Star Wars galaxy. Created by author Timothy Zahn, Thrawn was a major villain in the wake of Return of the Jedi, as seen in books that are now considered to be non-canon Legends. However, Thrawn has since been brought to the official canon thanks to Dave Filoni's animated series Star Wars Rebels, a live-action debut in Ahsoka, as well as new canon books from Zahn. However, there are still some discrepancies between Filoni and Zahn's versions of Thrawn.
At present, Grand Admiral Thrawn is positioned to become a major threat during the New Republic Era, just like his Legends counterpart. Having returned to the known Star Wars galaxy after years in exile, many expect Thrawn to be the main villain in Filoni's upcoming movie that will reportedly...

Exclusive: Lynn Whitfield will have an expanded role in The Chi moving forward, as the actress has been upped from guest star to series regular for Season 7.
Whitfield stars as Alicia, an intimidating, fearless and powerful matriarch who is laser-focused on avenging her brother’s murder. Last season, she squared off with rival villain Douda (Curtiss Cook), ultimately losing her son (guest star Iman Shumpert) to gun violence in the process.
Season 6 wrapped in June and set a new record for the series as the most-streamed season The Chi has ever seen, Deadline can also reveal exclusively, meaning that the season held onto momentum that began when the second half premiered in May.

Thrawn's complex character and goals set him apart from other Star Wars villains, seeking influence rather than power. Artist Kiara's Ahsoka artwork captures anticipation for Thrawn's return, showing growth and improvement over time. Ahsoka season 2 brings excitement as we anticipate the interaction between Ahsoka and the returning Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Many believe Ahsoka season 2 will feature more of Grand Admiral Thrawn, and this incredible Star Wars art perfectly captures the sense of anticipation. Thrawn was lost in hyperspace at the end of Star Wars Rebels, stranded on the distant planet of Peridea with Ezra Bridger for years. Star Wars fans wondered if Baylan Skoll would be recast following the death of actor Ray Stevenson, and we may now have our answer.
The season 1 finale of Ahsoka, "The Jedi, The Witch, And The Warlord," unfortunately, served as a farewell to the late Thor and Punisher: Warzone actor, who sadly passed away last May just before his 58th birthday.
Stevenson played a villainous former Jedi in the live-action Star Wars series, and the finale featured his last ever scene as the character, as we see the powerful Force-wielder standing on the ruins of a mountain-sized sculpture of the Mortis gods.
Skoll didn't have a big part to play in the events of the concluding episode, but Stevenson would undoubtedly have reprised the role at some point. Considering how important his character would appear to be to the ongoing story, there's been a lot of speculation that Baylan might be recast down the line,...

Han Solo's history is filled with hilariously nonsensical moments, from absurd bets to outlandish family lore. Chewbacca's life debt to Han was actually flipped in canon, with Chewie saving Han before swearing loyalty. Han Solo's iconic last name "Solo" was given to him by an Imperial officer due to the fact he was traveling "solo."
Though forever beloved by all, several Han Solo storylines and character elements in Star Wars are just hilariously nonsensical. As a third of the core trio of main characters in the original Star Wars trilogy, Han has one of the galaxy's most storied lives. This spans across many years, both in-universe and in real life, stretching from Star Wars Legends (previously known as the Expanded Universe) to Star Wars canon. Such a storied life would no doubt call for some moments and facts that are simply laughable.

Paramount+ with Showtime has released the trailer and key art for the upcoming second half of season six of The Chi, which will return May 10.
The series recently wrapped production in Chicago on the remaining eight episodes of the supersized 16-episode season.

Carano was fired in February 2021 from the Disney+ series; she portrayed character Cara Dune.
Now, Carano’s legal filing (via The Hollywood Reporter) cites that she was fired for discrimination and wrongful termination. Carano alleged she was fired for her political affiliations and gender. She is seeking a court order for Lucasfilm to recast her, and $75,000, plus punitive damages.
IndieWire has reached out to Disney for comment.
“Some of us have been unjustly singled out, harassed, persecuted and had our livelihoods stripped away because we dared to encourage conversation, asked questions, and refused to go along with the mob,” Carano said in a statement. Carano also shared a lengthy statement on X.

The Flash faced numerous challenges, including delays and director changes, before finally hitting theaters in June 2023. The film received mixed reviews, with criticism directed towards its visual effects, controversial cameos, and lack of significant changes to the franchise. Spoiler Alert: This recap contains spoilers from the Season 1 finale of Disney+/Lucasfilm’s Ahsoka, directed by Rick Famuyiwa and written by Dave Filoni.
Heading into tonight’s Season 1 finale of Ahsoka, fans knew we were flying to a cliffhanger; that Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) would make the jump to hyperspace via the space loop while some portion of Ahsoka and friends would be left behind without a prayer in the midst of the green tundra tumbleweeds of Peridea in a galaxy far, far away.
What didn’t happen in this episode were any major cameos from Star Wars canon dramatis personae of yore, i.e., Princess Leia or Luke Skywalker or Boba Fett or Baby Yoda. No, we got our fill of that with C-3Po in the last episode, when he appeared to defend Hera’s rogue mission before the snarky Galactic council.
Where do we go from here?...

Samuel L. Jackson is a legendary actor, an anime connoisseur, the man with a thousand franchises, and the baddest guy alive. Jackson is responsible for some of the most iconic characters in modern cinema, and also one notorious potty mouth — even if Jonah Hill is the one with the record for most cursing in film — which made his role in "Star Wars" more than a bit strange.
When he was first introduced in "The Phantom Menace," Mace Windu spent most of the runtime sitting on a chair in the Jedi Council Chamber, talking down to Anakin and not much else. It wasn't until "Attack of the Clones" that Mace Windu finally reached the potential of a "Star Wars" character played by Samuel L. Jackson, wielding the first purple lightsaber in live-action "Star Wars," being a badass that stops parties, and giving us some of the best fighting moves in the prequels.

Zack Snyder had big plans for his Justice League sequels, which potentially would have led to him involving Reverse-Flash in his Knightmare timeline. Storyboard artist Jay Oliva revealed details about Snyder's plans, suggesting that Reverse-Flash would be a surprise key player in the Knightmare timeline. Snyder had intended for his Flashpoint film to serve as a pivot point, rebooting the Dceu and allowing his story to be fully concluded. Reverse-Flash may have played a significant role in this.
Zack Snyder's Knightmare timeline was a huge part of his Justice League sequel plans, and new reveals about Snyder's roadmap could indicate that Reverse-Flash was to be involved. Following the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League in 2021, Snyder's unmade Justice League sequels have grown increasingly legendary. Despite DC Studios forthcoming Dcu reboot plans, calls of #RestoreTheSnyderVerse continue to reverberate online, with interest in Snyder's plans having also seen an unexpected bombshell from storyboard artist Jay Oliva.

Zack Snyder's original Dceu plans included a built-in end and reboot, allowing the actors to move on to other projects and DC to recast iconic roles. Snyder's planned trilogy of The Flash movies would have set up the Dceu's main villain, Eobard Thawne, and Flashpoint would have reset the universe. Snyder's Dceu plans could have addressed the complaints about the MCU, providing a clear ending and allowing new actors to take on iconic roles like Batman and Superman.
Zack Snyder's original Dceu plans would have avoided a major Marvel Cinematic Universe complaint post-Avengers: Endgame. Snyder directed three movies for DC, starting the Dceu with 2013's Man of Steel, the movie that introduced Henry Cavill's Superman and showed a lot of promise for what DC's movie future could hold. Then came 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the most divisive Dceu movie, which caused a major franchise shift in direction.

When Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ was released in 2013, we all thought a new era of DC had started since the movie was supposed to kick off a cinematic universe that was supposed to bring DC into the cinematic universe race with Marvel. However, ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ received a mixed critical response, and despite grossing over $800 million worldwide, it was deemed a commercial disappointment since it was the first live-action movie that assembled Batman and Superman together.

Warner Bros. is preparing to move away from what we once knew as the Dceu, which kicked off with Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" a decade ago. That whole endeavor was messy, but WB was originally all-in on the filmmaker's plans. One film that got dragged through the mud the whole way through was "The Flash," which finally hit theaters this summer with disastrous financial results. However, a previous incarnation of the project could have introduced a different Thanos-level threat to the Dceu.

Disney+’s new lengthy trailer for Star Wars: Ahsoka provides our first look at a live-action Thrawn. Lars Mikkelsen provided the character’s voice in the animated Star War Rebels series and reprises his role in the latest addition to the Star Wars franchise.
In an interview with EW, Mikkelsen offered a short description of Thrawn.
“He’s a top strategist,” said Mikkelsen. “He’s always seven paces ahead of anybody else. And ruthless, of course. But only when it’s needed, actually. I think he thrives also with the creativity of the surroundings. I mean, he’s not using people in a bad way. He’s using their creativity to reach his goals.”
Rosario Dawson leads the cast in the titular role. The series also stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, and Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati.

Disney+ has released a new trailer for the upcoming “Star Wars” series, “Ahsoka,” providing fans a look at the series’ villain, Grand Admiral Thrawn.
It was announced in April at the Star Wars Celebration fan convention, that Lars Mikkelsen would be set to reprise his role as the “Star Wars” villain and embody the character in the live-action series. Thrawn was originally created by author Timothy Zahn as part of a series of 1990s Star Wars novels chronicling the events following 1983’s “Return of the Jedi,” and he quickly became a fan-favorite character.
However, after Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, Thrawn’s character was removed from the official “Star Wars” canon. Then in 2016, Dave Filoni revived the character and brought him back into a galaxy far, far away after adding him to the “Star Wars Rebels” animated series. Throughout the show, Mikkelsen voiced the character.
